Balsan Station Korean BBQ with a beef tartare coupon for 4: Ihwajeong

In short

Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch is a room-style charcoal Korean BBQ restaurant in Gangseo, Seoul, a 4-minute walk from Balsan Station Exit 4. Three adults ordered four servings of marinated pork galbi (300g for 23,000 won), doenjang stew and rice, with staff grilling the meat from start to finish, but missed the free hanwoo beef tartare coupon that goes to parties of four or more. The gentle sweetness of the organic pear marinade, the private room seating and the 4-floor parking building make Ihwajeong worth a return visit with a fourth person.

Was in Seoul and went hunting for a pork galbi spot my brother would love, and found Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch! Taste matters with pork ribs, but grilling it yourself can get chaotic, so lately I prefer places where the staff grills for you. Here, the staff grills everything from start to finish, and there are private rooms too, which makes it great for family dinners or anyone looking for a company dinner spot in Magok.

Best of all, the marinated ribs weren't just sweet — they had a deep, refined flavor, so I left completely satisfied haha :)

Where is Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga near Balsan Station, and where do you park?

Hanok-style exterior of Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch

Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch is about a 4-minute walk from Balsan Station Exit 4, so it was easy to reach by subway. The exterior has an elegant hanok (traditional Korean house) feel that stands out from a distance, and once inside, it's just as clean and neat as the outside suggests!

Parking is a real headache at a lot of places around Magok and Balsan if you drive, but this place has its own separate 4-floor above-ground parking building, so it was easy to visit by car too.

Room-style seating split along both sides of a corridor

Personally, what I liked as much as the food was the room-style seating. Spaces are split along both sides of a corridor, so it's not the typical BBQ place where tables are crammed together — great for chatting comfortably with your group while eating.

Interior of a private room good for dining with a group

So if you're looking for a BBQ spot near Balsan Station or Magok for a family gathering, a meal with parents, or a group dinner, this seems like a pretty solid choice. Elegant atmosphere, convenient parking, and staff grilling the meat for you — all clear advantages when you're in a bigger group.

On top of that, they apparently give a free beef tartare coupon to parties of 4 or more adults, but we were exactly 3, so we missed out on it — so disappointing lol. If you're visiting with 4 or more people, definitely grab this!

The menu ranged from raw Korean beef ribs to beef skirt steak, marinated king beef ribs, and marinated pork — but since pork ribs were the whole point for us, we ordered the marinated pork!

Plate of raw marinated pork, cross-aged for 144 hours

The meat apparently goes through a 144-hour cross-aging process to soften the texture and bring out the umami of the raw meat.

The staff member was really kind, and best of all, they basically stuck to us the whole time grilling the meat haha.

Marinated meat burns fast if you let your guard down for even a second. Not having to flip it yourself and worry about doneness, and just eating it right when it's at its best, was genuinely convenient.

How does 300g pork galbi x4 taste for three adults at Ihwajeong?

  • Doenjang stew ₩8,000
  • Rice ₩1,000 × 2

Side dishes of geotjeori, onion and garlic scapes

The basic side dishes were pretty refined too. Salad, shredded scallion, geotjeori (fresh cabbage kimchi), onion and garlic scapes — mostly things that pair well with meat — but surprisingly, the potato salad was so good. I kept reaching for it even before the meat arrived haha.

And then, the star of the show — the marinated pork! They apparently use organic pear in the marinade, and tasting it, it wasn't the kind of dramatic sweetness that hits you like straight sugar, but a gentler, subtler sweetness.

Pork galbi with organic pear marinade being grilled

Grilled over charcoal, the edges caramelized to a light golden brown with a smoky charcoal aroma, while the inside stayed juicy — it was delicious even eaten plain.

Piling on a heap of shredded scallion added a crisp, sharp kick that balanced out the sweetness of the marinated ribs, and wrapping it with geotjeori gave a totally different feel again. In between, we snacked on onion and garlic scapes too.

After the meat, finishing with doenjang stew and rice rounded things off nicely. But don't stop here!!!!

Pear sherbet dessert ordered through the kiosk

Pear sherbet and the Naver review omija ade at Ihwajeong

Dessert has to be ordered separately through the table kiosk. We almost left without knowing, but we made sure to properly order the pear sherbet.

Cool and sweet, it felt like it cleared the palate nicely after the marinated ribs — a great match for dessert.

One more thing! Leaving a Naver review gets you a Mungyeong omija (schisandra berry) ade. Multiple people at one table can each redeem it, so if two people each leave a review, you can get two glasses — worth grabbing if you visit. It was tangy-sweet with some fizz, and surprisingly went well with the meat.

If you're looking for a BBQ place near Balsan Station with easy parking, staff who grill the meat for you, and rooms for a Magok company dinner, I'd recommend Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga.

If you like pork ribs with a subtle pear sweetness rather than just plain sugary marinade, I think you'll be satisfied here! Next time, I want to come with exactly 4 people so I can finally get that beef tartare we missed out on haha.
