Daejeon restaurant with unlimited soup refills for kids: Gatjidong

In short

Gatjidong Noeun Branch is a pork cutlet and curry restaurant in a residential area of Yuseong, Daejeon. Eating there with a child, the writer ordered the spicy pork cutlet and the vegetable croquette curry, refilled the Western-style soup twice, and had to save the half-and-half pork cutlet for next time because the cheese was sold out. The mild, not-too-strong seasoning and the soft croquette made Gatjidong an easy meal to finish.

A Yuseong, Daejeon pork cutlet restaurant close to Sejong

The reason I keep finding restaurants near Daejeon World Cup Stadium is that they're close to Sejong!! That's why I visit Daejeon often, and I also frequent restaurants near Daejeon National Cemetery. Maybe because Daejeon itself is a big city with deep history, I've rarely had a bad experience at restaurants there. So even though I live in Sejong, I end up in Daejeon a lot — especially at restaurants near Yuseong, which is close by. This time I went to Gatjidong Noeun Branch, known as a great pork cutlet restaurant in Daejeon.

Gatjidong had parking spaces right in front of the store, so parking was easy. It's located in a residential area rather than among the cluster of Yuseong restaurants, giving it the feel of a local Daejeon spot. It felt like a hidden restaurant near Daejeon World Cup Stadium, tucked away like this. There's a children's hall near the stadium where our kids love to play, so we've gone often since they were little, always hunting for good Daejeon restaurants — especially pork cutlet places the kids like. But somehow I was only now getting to Gatjidong.

Inside Gatjidong: a long menu and refillable soup

Ordering and finding seats with a child

From the entrance, the huge variety of menu items pulls you in haha. When there are this many options you obviously can't eat them all, but somehow it feels reassuring, and it's great for kids to pick and choose too. Anyway, a big menu is a plus, plus there's parking, plus the sign itself makes you want to walk in~~ No wonder it holds up as a restaurant near Daejeon National Cemetery.

Inside has a cozy atmosphere, complete with a nostalgic prize-draw event, very fitting for a restaurant near Daejeon World Cup Stadium. And here, that old-school Western-style soup is unlimited refill. The Korean broth is refillable too, but being able to keep drinking the soup is a huge perk. My daughter loved this part of the Yuseong restaurant experience.

What we ordered instead of the half-and-half pork cutlet

Gatjidong's signature in Yuseong is the half-and-half pork cutlet, which comes with both regular and cheese pork cutlet on one plate — honestly that's the main reason we went. Everyone has their own taste haha. My husband, who was completely different, was craving spicy, so he ordered the spicy pork cutlet, and I — as always, inevitably? — ordered the vegetable croquette curry to share with my daughter.

Unfortunately, we couldn't try Gatjidong's signature half-and-half pork cutlet near Daejeon World Cup Stadium because the cheese was sold out. It was a late lunch, so maybe after a rush of customers, the staff were very busy clearing tables. I guess restaurants near Daejeon National Cemetery really do stay busy even on weekdays.

Two soup refills and a soft vegetable croquette

By the time we'd refilled the soup twice, the food from Gatjidong near Daejeon World Cup Stadium finally arrived. The spicy pork cutlet had a huge pile of onions on top, which I loved, and the curry — well, curry's a menu item that's hard to mess up haha — the croquette was soft and melted in the mouth.

Everything at Gatjidong near Daejeon National Cemetery was delicious. My daughter happily ate her way through the soup, curry, and croquette too. My husband, who enjoyed it the most, declared it officially a good Yuseong restaurant haha.

Mild seasoning that had us finishing every plate

Even for my palate, which dislikes strong seasoning, the food at Gatjidong near Daejeon World Cup Stadium was seasoned just right and tasted great. If something's too salty, too spicy, or too intense, I usually don't finish it — but at this Daejeon pork cutlet restaurant, we ate everything. The croquette at this restaurant near Daejeon National Cemetery was the best part.

At this point I want to try all of Gatjidong's other menu items next time, especially the signature half-and-half pork cutlet haha. Next time, for sure~~

There are other branches, but since this one is close to Sejong, I'll be a regular. Taking the kids around Daejeon a lot, I also appreciated that it's not in a crowded restaurant alley. If you're looking for a restaurant near Daejeon World Cup Stadium, near Daejeon National Cemetery, or in Yuseong, Daejeon, I highly recommend Gatjidong Noeun Branch~~~
