Songjeong Station bakery with free gift stickers: Ssukseu Choco Pie

Lately whenever I travel to another region I make sure to check out the local bakery hotspot haha!! And in Gwangju, Ssukseu Choco Pie is the one everyone's talking about right now. It's a famous chilled mugwort choco pie shop that even does pop-ups in Seoul a lot ✨ It's near Gwangju Songjeong Station too, so the location is perfect >< Here's my honest review of the super tasty Ssukseu Choco Pie —!

It's across from Gwangju Songjeong Station in Songjeong Station Market haha. Only a 5-minute walk from Gwangju Songjeong Station, so it's really close!

You can also book a Naver pickup reservation, and they sell by delivery on Smartstore haha. The individual packaging is done so carefully that I highly, highly recommend it as a gift! ! ! 🎁

This is Ssukseu Choco Pie haha, the mugwort-shaped sign was so cute! The interior matches perfectly too.

A takeout-only shop: pick your pies from the display fridge

The Ssukseu Choco Pie store isn't very big since it's takeout only! The choco pie box decor fits perfectly though. You could check the products right away in the display fridge, which made ordering easier haha.

They packaged it so carefully haha, it really felt thoughtful and I loved that.

Each choco pie's box has its own distinct look too, so they were easy to tell apart.

Each box shows a cross-section image of the product, which was so cute lol. And when I actually ate it and compared, it really did match exactly. That little detail felt so thoughtful ><. The raw ingredients and storage precautions were also clearly labeled.

The products are also individually wrapped in plastic, so super clean!! Each flavor has a totally different look on the outside and different bread and cream on the inside. Fun to try flavor by flavor ~~

Tasting all six Ssukseu Choco Pie flavours

Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort

Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort seems to be Ssukseu Choco Pie's signature flavor, and I highly recommend it haha. The bread has a subtle mugwort aroma, and the fresh cream is really premium. The chocolate coating on the outside is quite thick too!! Nothing else compares to it — it's a super premium version. Even older folks would really love this flavor.

Nonsan strawberry

The strawberry flesh and jam flavor really comes through strongly haha. Looking at the cross-section I thought there might not be much strawberry, but not at all!! It was in a perfect ratio ㅎ_ㅎ

Sea-breeze mugwort injeolmi (chewy rice cake)

Injeolmi (rice cake) powder is dusted on the chocolate, so it really has that injeolmi feel haha. There's also rice cake inside, so the texture is great, and the cream has a nutty flavor too — it was so unique and I loved it!

Gwangju real chocolate

The chocolate powder coating on the outside is amazing hahaha. It totally tasted like eating real chocolate. The chocolate quality was so good! Just the right sweetness with a hint of bitterness added — the best ~~

Udo peanut

This one has a really intense peanut flavor lol. There's a lot of peanut crunch on the outside so the texture is great, and the cream is peanut-flavored too, so it really feels like eating real peanuts haha.

Sea-breeze mugwort whole red bean

It's made with steamed red beans, so the red bean flavor and aroma are amazing. The red bean flavor lasted through the whole thing haha. Chocolate and red bean together are such a great combo ><

Why Ssukseu Choco Pie works as a Gwangju gift

I tried all 6 flavors of choco pie, and honestly they were all delicious and each felt like a new experience haha. Really premium choco pies!! The price never felt too expensive for what you get. The packaging is so well done that I really recommend it as a gift — I think it'd feel great to receive one of these as a present haha. If you come to Gwangju, definitely stop by ><
