I went to Gwangju Songjeong Station and it felt like a waste to just head straight back, so I popped over to Ssukseu Choco Pie inside 1913 Songjeong Station Market~ A choco pie made with mugwort? I was curious, and they had a neat gift set, so I went and checked it out.

Thanks to the huge green sign, Ssukseu Choco Pie is easy to spot while walking through the market even if it's your first time here.

A bear character🐻 standing by the window holding a shopping bag — apparently the concept comes from the story of a bear who eats mugwort to become human, haha. From the two cute bears to the green shopping bag, the storefront is a low-key photo spot.

According to the in-store signage, Ssukseu has been a mugwort dessert specialist brand since 2016! Adding Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort and local ingredients to the familiar choco pie, turning it into a distinctly Gwangju travel souvenir, felt impressive💕

Since it's a takeout-only shop, one whole wall filled with green boxes made it immediately clear this place is all about gift sets.

There's a tasting table where you can try before you buy! I could check out the flavors I was curious about first.

Ssukseu has more than choco pies — scones, cookies, cheesecake, and even mugwort milk tea were all on offer. There were way more options than I expected, so I went in to pick just one and somehow ended up filling a whole gift box, haha.

• Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort choco pie = the classic option, letting you enjoy a mild mugwort-and-fresh-cream combo. The Nonsan strawberry has a house-made strawberry purée inside, making it easier to eat for people who find mugwort intimidating.

• Sea-breeze mugwort injeolmi (rice cake) = a popular pick with bean powder, injeolmi cream, and chewy rice cake all added! The Udo peanut has a clear nutty peanut flavor, so it should suit anyone who loves nuts.

• Sea-breeze mugwort whole red bean = mugwort paired with domestic red beans • Gwangju real choco = the chocolate chips in the cream are the highlight! A nice lineup where a mugwort person and a chocolate person could each pick one to their own taste.

Beyond the choco pies, mugwort desserts like the sea-breeze mugwort salt cookie and the Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort scone were also available. The mugwort salt cookie especially, with its sweet-and-salty combo, is something I definitely want to bring someone back for next time.

• The domestic soybean tofu scone and sweet pumpkin cookie sound wholesome just from their names, haha. I walked in expecting only choco pies, but it felt like a whole Ssukseu-brand dessert sampler!

They also sell mugwort milk tea and regular milk tea in bear-shaped bottles.
