Yuryang-dong, Cheonan crab hot pot for a lost appetite: Huni Gejang
In short
Huni Gejang Cheonan Main Branch is a blue crab hot pot and soy-marinated crab restaurant at the entrance to Yuryang-dong in Cheonan. A pregnant diner whose appetite had faded emptied a full bowl of rice with the small-size crab hot pot and stone-pot rice, and all four Yeonpyeong-do blue crabs were packed with meat instead of being hit or miss. The washbasin-sized pot held enough to fill two people, so 70,000 won did not feel expensive.

The story of Huni Gejang, a Yuryang-dong restaurant in Cheonan, and the crab soup that brought back a pregnant appetite.

Even as the crisp, appetite-sharpening autumn season rolled around, this pregnant Chungcheong-do girl's appetite had dropped hard. Chicken, pizza, anything I cooked myself — none of it appealed, and I was just eating fruit on repeat. Then I tasted a dish that felt like fate, one that got me to finish a whole bowl of rice.
Where is Huni Gejang in Yuryang-dong, Cheonan?

Huni Gejang, famous for its crab soup and soy-marinated crab, is a Yuryang-dong restaurant in Cheonan located near the entrance to the neighborhood.

This is a place anyone who knows Yuryang-dong restaurants already knows about — it's already famous, so my expectations were high even before visiting.

A must-have for any good Yuryang-dong restaurant in Cheonan: it has its own private parking lot, so there's absolutely zero parking stress.
Huni Gejang's menu and where the crab comes from

True to a crab restaurant, gejang (soy-marinated crab) is written large as the signature dish. What I really liked was that the country of origin was labeled clearly and prominently — it put me at ease before I'd even eaten.

Besides that, this place is also famous for crab soup, sold in three sizes — small, medium, and large. This is what we ordered!

Huni Gejang, this Yuryang-dong crab soup and soy-marinated crab spot in Cheonan, also runs a generous receipt review event. Let's promise ourselves we'll take advantage of it!
Inside the restaurant and the space between tables
Huni Gejang's interior was open and spacious, nice and breezy.

Unlike other dishes, crab soup and soy-marinated crab take real effort to eat and it's hard to keep things tidy — but the restaurant seemed to understand exactly that, with very generous spacing between tables.

If you sit by the window, you can eat while looking out at the green scenery of Yuryang-dong — a treat for the eyes too!
Side dishes and the stone-pot rice

A clean set of side dishes came out. The stir-fried seaweed stems and stir-fried bracken were genuinely delicious!

Crab soup and plain rice are ordered separately, so this Chungcheong-do girl tried the stone-pot rice. If you visit this place, please, order the stone-pot rice... The rice fragrance alone is amazing, and the rice itself is so delicious.
How much food is the small crab hot pot?
The crab soup came out soon after — I was surprised at how huge it was even though I'd ordered the smallest size, haha. You can't tell from photos, but the pot was roughly the size of a washbasin. It's listed as 2–3 servings, but I think it would be plenty even for four people.

It even comes with a sand timer that signals when it's at its most delicious, haha. If you spend time debating how amazing the crab soup looks, five minutes flies by!
The Yeonpyeong-do blue crabs packed in are genuinely substantial. (Any spots that look empty are just the natural gap between the shell and the gills — not missing meat, absolutely.) There were 8 crab pieces like this, meaning a total of 4 crabs went in,

a half-crab piece is about the size of my fist, so that really is four big crabs in there, haha.

The meat was seriously packed full, haha.
Sweet crab meat: how did it taste?

After the first bite, my partner and I basically said the same thing at the same time: the crab meat is sweet (in a good way), haha. Not sugary sweet — the meat itself had a natural sweetness.

Break open the claw and the meat yield is this good, haha. The claw really is the tastiest part!

Even the legs, which you have to gnaw on bit by bit, gave up quite a lot of meat, so I ended up finishing them all.

Digging out the body meat and dipping it in the broth — no words needed! Since the crab itself is so good, the broth is refreshing and packed with umami, unbelievably so.

Radish comes along to cleanse your palate in between, and it's a nice treat on its own!

Every single crab was packed with meat, no luck of the draw involved, which made for a truly satisfying meal.

The two of us cleared all 4 crabs! We ate so happily that a satisfying, full feeling washed over us.
Is 70,000 won worth it?
Considering the quality and quantity of crab that goes into the soup, ₩70,000 for 2–3 servings? It didn't feel expensive at all, haha. It really felt like emptying a full bowl of rice for once. I want to invite my dad, who only goes to restaurants using domestic ingredients, here so he can give it his stamp of approval, haha.
