Gyeongju tea house with jujube tea and salt butter bread: Bibibidang

In short

Bibibidang Gyeongju is a traditional tea house on the first floor of Uyang Museum inside the Hilton Gyeongju, in the Bomun resort area. The writer visited with her mom and ordered a sweet pumpkin bingsu (shaved ice) for one, jujube tea, and salt butter bread: the jujube tea satisfied even her picky mom, while the bread's crust was chewy and turned hard as it cooled. With free Hilton Gyeongju parking and a museum exhibition to see in the same building, Bibibidang Gyeongju is a quiet place to rest during a Gyeongju trip.

Walk into the Uyang Museum's 1st floor lobby and there's a gift shop on the right; go a bit further in and you'll find Bibibidang. (You don't have to be a hotel guest or museum visitor to use this space — anyone can drop in.)

Bibibidang Gyeongju also has terrace-style outdoor seating. On a nice day, it looked like a lovely spot to relax outside.

What we ordered at Bibibidang Gyeongju: pumpkin bingsu, jujube tea, salt butter bread

As befits a traditional tea house, Bibibidang serves a full tea-ceremony set and a variety of traditional teas, along with coffee menu items too.

I came running purely for the sweet pumpkin bingsu, so we ordered sweet pumpkin bingsu (for one), jujube tea, and salt butter bread.

The Uyang Museum is currently running a Snoopy exhibition, so Bibibidang also had special Snoopy menu items. There were lots of kids who'd come for the exhibition, and since they sell ice cream and sweet non-coffee drinks too, it seemed like a good spot to bring kids along~

Interior of Bibibidang Gyeongju filled with natural light

Inside Bibibidang Gyeongju: a modern café, not a hanok

Inside, Bibibidang Gyeongju is bright with natural light and has a calm atmosphere. You'd expect a traditional tea house to feel like a hanok space, but Bibibidang Gyeongju actually had a modern, contemporary café feel.

White and gray-toned interior with seating for 2 and 4

There are tables for 2 and for 4, plus seats where you can sit side by side. The soft white and gray interior felt clean and open overall.

A neatly arranged table spread at Bibibidang

Everything arrived so beautifully arranged as a neat little spread. It looked like each item had been prepared with care, so I was excited before even taking a bite!!!! 🍵

Sweet pumpkin bingsu for one: enough to fill you up

The sweet pumpkin bingsu (for one) came in a large enough portion to fill you up on your own. Apparently every menu item at Bibibidang comes with a side rice cake (dasik). Mine came with black sesame rice cake. The pumpkin bingsu was sweet and soft, perfect for a hot day, with bits of sikhye (sweet rice drink) mixed in for some texture.

Black sesame rice cake steamed fresh that morning

The black sesame rice cake is apparently steamed fresh that same morning — its nutty flavor paired nicely with the sweetness of the pumpkin bingsu.

Salt butter bread served warm

Salt butter bread: where it fell short

The salt butter bread came out warmed. The crust, though, was a little tough. The buttery center was salty and savory, so I enjoyed eating it, but I was a bit disappointed that the bread hardened as it cooled.

Jujube tea served as a full table spread at Bibibidang

Jujube tea: the menu item that won over mom

The jujube tea also arrives as a neat little spread. Apparently it's a popular order. This was what my mom ordered — she has a picky palate and doesn't eat much, but she enjoyed this one, which made me happy 🤭

Who is Bibibidang Gyeongju good for?

Located inside the Hilton and the Uyang Museum, Bibibidang Gyeongju seems like a nice spot to rest for people visiting the exhibition or staying at the hotel. It's quiet and atmospheric overall, so it's nice to bring older family members, and with ice cream options kids will enjoy too, I saw a lot of families visiting!

If you're looking for a quiet café to rest at during your Gyeongju trip, I'd recommend Bibibidang — you can see the museum exhibition and enjoy delicious traditional tea and desserts all in one stop ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
