Mangwon-dong coffee shop for a shared iced café mocha: PICT Roastery

In short

PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch is a roastery coffee shop in Mangwon-dong, Mapo, Seoul, a five-minute walk from Mangwon Station toward Mangwon Market, roasting green beans in-house every day. Two of us ordered an iced café latte for 5,500 won, an iced café mocha for 6,500 won and pistachio tiramisu for 8,000 won and shared them at a corner table beside the full-height window. The café mocha looked pale but tasted deeply of coffee rather than sugar, and the tiramisu arrived under a thick layer of chopped pistachio that melted as we ate.

Pistachio tiramisu at PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch
Pistachio tiramisu

I heard a new café near Mangwon Market roasts its own green beans every day, so here's my visit report on PICT Roastery near Mangwon Market! It's about a 5-minute walk from Mangwon Station toward the market.

Since I hadn't been to Mangwon Market in a while, I figured I'd grab a coffee and then go browse the market. It's about 2–3 minutes from the market. Figs are in season right now, and the fig toast poster looked so delicious. I heard the tiramisu and cheesecake here are great, so I took Bongbong, who loves tiramisu, along with me.

Even before going in, the fresh coffee bean smell put me in a good mood. Clean white-toned interior. It was already packed inside, so we waited a bit.

Since they focus on great coffee, the coffee menu isn't huge — americano, café latte, vanilla bean latte, cappuccino, café mocha, black latte, and so on, plus:

  • Aged French toast ₩11,900
  • Kyoto matcha Basque cheesecake ₩7,500
  • Pistachio tiramisu ₩8,000

There were also 3 types of tea.

You can also choose between acidic and non-acidic beans. We ordered iced café latte (₩5,500), iced café mocha (₩6,500), and pistachio tiramisu (₩8,000) and waited.

We were sitting near the entrance when a corner seat opened up, so we moved right away and took the interior photos again. It's a small café, but the huge picture window kept it from feeling narrow or stuffy.

A little while later, a staff member brought our coffee and dessert to the table. The pistachio tiramisu looked so pretty.

Dessert after a good meal is a must! The iced latte and iced café mocha were both served in cute cups, which made me happy.

The pistachio tiramisu had a generous pile of finely chopped real pistachio on top, and it looked incredibly appetizing.

How the iced café latte and pistachio tiramisu tasted

Bongbong and I cheered and started the coffee tasting! My café latte was rich, nutty, and just right. It went down smoothly and was genuinely nutty-tasting. I wish there had been a bit more of it, though.

The pistachio tiramisu... it truly melted me. It was perfect for my pistachio-loving palate. A sip of coffee followed by a bite of tiramisu, and the soft, moist tiramisu melted in my mouth.

Bongbong and I shared it happily.

How was the iced café mocha?

Bongbong's iced café mocha didn't look chocolatey when it arrived, so I thought it might be bland, but once she stirred it well and took a sip, it turned out to be a really delicious café mocha. It wasn't too sweet and had a strong coffee flavor, so Bongbong drank it happily.

These days so many customers seem to find places through internet searches — the place stayed packed with people constantly coming and going, which I found interesting. There were also a lot of young people coming alone just for toast or cake with their coffee, and I really felt how much the world has changed. It's a whole different era, seriously.

After the café: a stroll through Mangwon Market and Mangridan-gil

Looking at these photos makes me want that tiramisu again. I really love pistachio.

After a while, the two of us had a great brunch and then a lovely café date — such a good afternoon!

After finishing up, we headed out to Mangwon Market. I was surprised by how many people were there. Among traditional markets, it really has a lot to see and eat, so I enjoy visiting occasionally, and it's fun every time. A fun day out on the currently trendy Mangridan-gil too.
