Lake-view Indian lunch in Suseong, Daegu: beef curry, Rama & Bavana

Today I went for lunch at Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch, a Daegu favorite for good Indian food near Suseong Lake~ Rama & Bavana has been running since 2004 and anyone from Daegu knows this place! I actually came here as a kid holding my mom's hand to eat Indian curry 😊 I'll write up a vivid review of the delicious food below, so I hope you enjoy the post~

Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch's private lot is behind the building too, so it's fine to drive over! Just follow the stairs up to the second floor~ We arrived early before opening, and there was a nice waiting area near the entrance that made it comfortable to sit and wait. I heard waits are common on weekends, so I'd recommend booking ahead haha.

What are the Suseong Lake window seats like?

The interior of Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch was truly spectacular~ The window seats with a full view of Suseong Lake through the floor-to-ceiling glass put me in a good mood even before the food arrived. We visited around autumn, but if you time it right in spring, you could eat while watching cherry blossoms~ Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch really has great atmosphere.

There was also a Kind Travel Shop certificate displayed in one corner of the restaurant. And no wonder — the staff at Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch are extremely kind. Even if the food is delicious, bad service can make you hesitant to return, but Rama & Bavana has absolutely no such worries! Thanks to the friendly staff, we had a great meal.

Can't skip mentioning the receipt review event. If you write a photo review, they give you a menu item worth ₩8,000, so anyone interested should definitely try it 👍🏻

How ordering works and what we chose

At Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch, you order at the kiosk and pay at the counter on your way out! There was also a QR code for Wi-Fi and the receipt review event, and after some deliberation, we ordered as follows.

• 1 beef curry (+extra naan)
• 1 nasi goreng
• 1 pineapple lassi
• 1 mango lassi

This is the sweet and tangy pickle that comes as a default side! It was just right for whetting the appetite before the meal.

Right after, the lassis came out! Think of lassi as a sweet-tasting drink — both the pineapple and mango flavors were equally appealing, no weak link between them. I wondered if something so sweet would go well with curry, but wow, it really did blend in perfectly haha. If you visit Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch, be sure to try a lassi~

Level 1 (mild) beef curry

Here's the beef curry at spice level 1! It came out in a genie-lamp-shaped bowl and looked amazing. I wanted to check if the distinctive curry flavor came through well, so I tasted a spoonful of just the curry first.

Tasting the curry alone, I could really feel a smooth, savory depth — this was a delicious curry! I was worried the spices might be too overpowering, but there was absolutely no need to worry about that 😍

The extra naan

We ordered an extra naan, and it came out so big that, no exaggeration, you could use it as a blanket haha.

Anyway, dipping it into the beef curry, the chewy, nutty naan and the curry flavor blended together really well. If you visit Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch, definitely order the curry and naan combo!!

Nasi goreng, sliced open with a knife

Nasi goreng was my friend's pick — the visual was so unusual that it was intriguing right away!! Apparently it's a dish you're meant to cut in half with a knife. They gave us a knife along with the serving.

I carefully cut it into quarters and went in with a fork, and the cheese stretched out so long that I thought, I have to capture this! and quickly grabbed my camera haha.

Here's what the cross-section looks like after cutting it in half. Rama & Bavana's nasi goreng is basically a slightly spicy fried rice with cheese and seafood mixed in. The nasi goreng was really delicious too 💕

Eating through the meal, I suddenly realized — the curry and every dish had really generous portions overall, so the two of us properly stuffed ourselves~ And the pretty window view came as a bonus! Try arriving early to grab a window seat ⭐️

At Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch, a Daegu favorite for good Indian food near Suseong Lake, we tried the beef curry, nasi goreng, and naan — and I recommend the curry-naan combo with my name on it! The nutty naan and smooth curry combo is one of the reasons I've decided to come back. The slightly spicy nasi goreng also had incredible depth of flavor~
