Tandoori cream chicken date at Daegu Indian restaurant: Rama & Bavana

In short

Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch is an Indian restaurant on Yonghak-ro in Suseong-gu, Daegu, open since 2004. From a window seat, a married couple ordered nasi goreng, tandoori cream chicken, tandoori tikka and mango lassi, and all three mains came in portions larger than expected, so the leftovers were packed to go. With the spice toned down for Korean palates and two baby chairs on hand, Rama & Bavana works for both a date and a meal with a child.

Signature image of Indian food at Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch

It's been a while since I went on a date, and this time we headed to Rama & Bavana, a well-known spot by Suseong Lake in Daegu! We properly demolished nasi goreng, tandoori cream chicken, mango lassi, and more (it's Bavana, not Banana... so many reviews out there pop up under 'banana' 😂).

We picked the window seat near the entrance. It's bright with sunlight and feels open, so it looked great for photos too.

A good date restaurant needs pretty interiors, pretty food, and food that actually tastes good — Rama & Bavana checks all three boxes.

  • Tapping through the menu on the tablet brings up menu descriptions, which are handy if you don't often eat Indian food.
  • We couldn't pass up the receipt review event — you get to pick either French fries or the daily salad as a free service.

While waiting, I glanced at the open kitchen, and even at a glance it looked like a place that cares about cleanliness. And the food came out faster than expected!

What a couple ordered: tandoori tikka, nasi goreng, tandoori cream chicken and mango lassi

Four Indian dishes set on the table

We ordered four dishes in total. Why did we order three mains, you ask — from the review photos I'd seen, I thought the portions would be small...

But the nasi goreng that showed up was twice the size of my fist!!!

Nasi goreng: seafood risotto in a tortilla

This isn't the usual nasi goreng look, right? Open up the tortilla and inside is something like a cheesy seafood risotto — it seemed designed to make Indian cooking more approachable for Korean tastes.

Loaded with onion, baby octopus, cocktail shrimp, scrambled egg, and more, the flavor really came through. My husband's pick was this nasi goreng, Rama & Bavana's signature dish! Round of applause.

Tandoori cream chicken: the cream sauce is the kicker

A generous plate of tandoori cream chicken

I also thought this would be a small portion... but I was surprised by the big chunks of chicken that arrived. The spices and sauce weren't too strong, so I thought it'd even work well for a baby.

Dipping tandoori chicken into the cream sauce

The cream sauce is the kicker!! Dip a bite into the sauce and you get a mild curry-flavored cream wrapping around the savory chicken. The sauce was good enough that I wanted to just drown the chicken in it.

Cross-section of tandoori chicken made entirely of moist cuts

On top of that, this tandoori chicken was made entirely of moist cuts with no dry parts! Great value for the quality.

Mango lassi: the drink to sip between bites

Mango lassi in a glass

I definitely recommend getting this mango lassi! It has a smooth mango yogurt flavor, and sipping it between bites acts like a booster that gets your appetite going again. You might think, huh, yogurt with rice? But it's really different from a plain mango yogurt!

I thought it would be a small portion, but this too came with big shrimp, big chicken..
Plate of clay oven-roasted tandoori tikka

Tandoori tikka: shrimp, chicken and salad on one plate

The name sounded unfamiliar, so I looked it up — it means ingredients cut into bite-size pieces, marinated in traditional Indian spices and seasoning, then roasted in a clay oven. Tandoori chicken means the same thing, marinated in traditional Indian spices and roasted in a clay oven!

The shrimp had a plump, satisfying bite... with shrimp this plump, ordering the butter garlic shrimp would've been a good call too, but honestly, this shrimp was delicious, haha.

Perfect for when you want shrimp, chicken, and a salad all at once! Order the tandoori tikka and you get all three flavors in one satisfying dish.

Can you take leftovers home from Rama & Bavana?

From the moment the food arrived, I wondered if we could finish it all, but since leftovers can be packed up, we could eat comfortably without worrying about waste.

Final verdict on Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch

Overall, the dishes at Rama & Bavana by Suseong Lake in Daegu felt like Indian food with the spice toned down to suit Korean tastes, and maybe that's exactly why this restaurant, open since 2004, has held its ground for 22 years now. The friendly staff also made for a pleasant meal.

If you're around Suseong Lake, come visit Rama & Bavana without worrying about parking — whether it's a date or a meal with your kid.
