Daegu Indian restaurant dinner with pineapple lassi: Rama & Bavana

Don't you have those days when you crave something a bit different from your usual food? I had one of those days, so I went to Rama & Bavana.

At first I only planned to have chicken curry and naan, but as I scrolled through the menu photos, so many dishes caught my eye that I ended up ordering way more than I meant to, haha.

That day's order was 1.5 servings of chicken curry with naan, nasi goreng, tandoori cream chicken, and a pineapple lassi. Some of the dishes looked completely different from what I'd imagined just from their names, which made the meal even more memorable.

Finding Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch: the building and entrance

This is the lit-up sign at Rama & Bavana in the evening. Even though it's on the 2nd floor, the name 'Rama & Bavana' stood out from outside the building, so I found it right away.

There's a parking lot behind the building, so parking was easy too.

Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch is right by Suseong Lake, so it was great for a walk after the meal. The weather has been nice lately, so eating and then walking felt really good.

Parking is notoriously hard around Suseong Lake, but Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch has parking space set up behind the building, so I could park comfortably.

Ordering from the screen on each table instead of a paper menu

Each table has an ordering screen, so I could pick from the menu while looking at photos of the food. I originally only meant to order chicken curry and naan, but as I scrolled through, there were so many dishes I'd never seen before. Besides curries, there were rice dishes and tandoori dishes too, so I spent a good while deciding what to eat, lol.

What we picked was 1.5 servings of chicken curry with naan, nasi goreng, and tandoori cream chicken! For drinks, we ordered a pineapple lassi. Just from the name, I had no idea what nasi goreng would look like when it arrived — more on that when we get to the food photos :)

Inside Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch: seating and mood

The inside was full of wood-toned tables and chairs, giving it an overall warm and cozy feel.

The seating area felt spacious, and the vibe by the window seats was a bit different from the inner seats, which made it fun to look around. The ordering screens on the tables also caught my eye.

India is a country I've always wanted to visit, but since it's too far to go easily, I don't often get the chance to eat Indian food. So it was great to be able to eat it at a proper Indian restaurant like this. That's why I ended up ordering all kinds of different dishes, haha.

What I was most looking forward to was the chicken curry and naan. I ordered 1.5 servings of chicken curry, and in the photo you can see two small curry bowls. That's not two different curries — it's just the 1.5 servings split into two bowls. Even looking back at the photo now, it looks like I ordered two kinds of curry, lol. The naan that came with it was big, so it was easy to tear off pieces and dip them in the curry. I felt like it would've been a shame to skip the naan when coming for curry.

The surprise: nasi goreng served as rice wrapped in naan

And the dish that surprised me most that day was the nasi goreng! Honestly, just from the name I thought it would be something like bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles). But what arrived was a round, wrapped rice dish. It was so different from what I expected that the moment it arrived I went 'wait, this is nasi goreng?', haha.

Sauce was drizzled on the outside, and when I cut it in half, there was fried rice and cheese inside. Since it was rice wrapped in naan and baked, it looked totally different from the fried rice I usually picture. I took photos of the outside, and then cut it open and took more photos because I was just so curious.

The tandoori cream chicken had grilled chicken topped with cream sauce and grated cheese. It came out as several pieces on one plate, so we nibbled on it here and there alongside the curry and nasi goreng. Looking at the close-up photo, the sauce-covered chicken looks tempting all over again :)

The pineapple lassi was great too. It had a pineapple flavor with a delicious yogurt-like feel! It was nice to take a sip between bites of food, and it's a drink I'd want to order again next time.

Is Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch worth a dinner in Daegu?

At Rama & Bavana, I did get to enjoy the chicken curry and naan I originally wanted, but unexpectedly, the dish that stuck with me longest was the nasi goreng. I can still vividly remember that moment of expecting bibim guksu and instead getting rice wrapped in naan, lol.

Ordering the tandoori cream chicken alongside meant every dish looked different, which made taking photos fun too. If you're craving something a little different from your usual meals, I'd recommend trying the curry, naan, and nasi goreng together at Rama & Bavana. And if you like pineapple yogurt drinks, be sure to order the pineapple lassi too :)
