I went on a little drive and outing to Anseong, then found Chat Baker Brunch & Bakery Café (챗 베이커 브런치 & 베이커리 카페), where you can enjoy delicious brunch, bread, and coffee all in one place! Its first- and second-floor space is about 500 pyeong (around 1,650 m²), and it is roughly a five-minute drive from both Farm Land and Starfield, making it a great addition to an Anseong day out. 🚗✨ Personally, I especially recommend it to anyone looking for a café near Anseong Farm Land!

Apparently, the name “Chat Baker” was inspired by jazz great Chet Baker. They wanted to create a space that lingers quietly for a long time, rather than one dressed up too flamboyantly, like his music. It also carries the meaning of Chat, as in conversation. The jazz posters displayed around the café make it feel even more atmospheric.

With large cafés, tables can sometimes be packed tightly together, making things feel a little hectic when it is busy. Here, though, the tables were generously spaced and the whole place felt truly roomy. Soft daylight through the floor-to-ceiling windows and calm music created such a quiet, steady atmosphere—it felt so healing. 🌿

There is even a space in the café for enjoying jazz LPs and music, and they also hold regular live performances. Maybe that is why, despite its size, it felt less like a noisy mega-café and more like a place where you can sit back and spend time at ease. 😊

Spicy beef brisket cream pasta that cuts through the richness

There were so many breads and brunch dishes that I spent ages deciding what to get, but the spicy beef brisket cream pasta was a new menu item, so I ordered one pasta, two bakery items, and drinks.

I first tried a sip of the Yeoksam-dong Tiger, the signature drip coffee my boyfriend ordered. It is a coffee with grapefruit-like bitterness and notes in the tangerine and apricot family. The first sip brings gentle acidity and a bitter, refreshing aroma that feels like grapefruit peel. But it is not simply sour: from the middle, a bright, sweet tangerine-like note continues, then a soft apricot-like fruit aroma remains at the end! If you usually prefer fruity specialty coffee over nutty, full-bodied coffee, I think it would suit your taste. 🍊🍑

One sip of coffee, then straight in for the pasta! Cream pasta is usually one of those dishes I do not reach for often because it can feel too rich, but here you can choose the spice level, so I ordered the spicy beef brisket cream pasta. Rather than being overly heavy or thick, the cream sauce first tasted smooth and nutty, followed by the savory meaty aroma unique to beef brisket slices. The beef made it noticeably richer and more filling than an ordinary cream pasta! And the spice cut through the oiliness of the meat and cream, so I could eat it without feeling overwhelmed or tired of it.

The cream sauce clung nicely to the pasta, filling my mouth with nutty flavor in every bite. With the beef brisket, it added a salty, deep umami note, making it perfect for brunch. 🤎 If you love cream pasta, I definitely recommend trying this spicy beef brisket cream pasta at least once. Just note that the brunch pasta menu is available from 11:00 to 20:00!

Café latte with a lovely subtle sweetness

The café latte is a signature drink, so I tried it with high expectations—and even though it is just a café latte, it had this faint hint of sweetness?! The subtle sweetness blended beautifully with the fresh, nutty richness of the milk, and it was so good. There are lots of reviews calling this a great place for café lattes, and honestly, the latte really was delicious..!!

A chocolate-only baguette and thousand-layer croissant

I also chose the currently popular chocolate baguette. The mild, nutty flavor of the baguette paired with the chocolate sweetness made it a great match for coffee. I picked it because I wanted a dessert-like finish after brunch, and it was absolutely perfect with coffee!! I usually prefer chocolate baguettes with only chocolate inside, but lots of places add cranberries or orange peel. Chat Baker uses chocolate only!! It was just right for enjoying sweetly with coffee! ☕🍫

I also picked the thousand-layer croissant because the name alone made me curious.

Its layered pastry structure was beautifully intact, with a crisp exterior that gave way to a soft interior. A gentle buttery flavor came through, along with both the crunch of the outside and the moist layers within, so it was tasty even on its own. 🥐✨ A lightly sweet syrup was brushed over the surface, letting you enjoy both nuttiness and sweetness. Chat Baker sells bread baked fresh in-house every day, and its official information introduces a range of bakery items including the thousand-layer croissant, salt bread, kouign-amann, ciabatta, and campagne. There were so many kinds of bread that I wanted to pick a different one each on my next visit. 💕
