Suwon café for nutty espresso affogato: Jeong Jiyeong Coffee

In short

Jeong Jiyeong Coffee Roasters Starfield Suwon Branch is a specialty coffee café on the second floor of Starfield Suwon in Suwon, Gyeonggi. We ordered a ₩6,500 affogato and a ₩7,000 iced coconut coffee, and loved the nutty espresso and lightly sweet coconut flavor. Verdict: a refreshing stop for a sweet coffee at Starfield.

I had really enjoyed the coconut coffee and affogato at Jeong Jiyeong Coffee Roasters before, so I wanted to go again. There happened to be a branch at Starfield Suwon, so I visited with my husband on a weekday.

I think it is great that Jeong Jiyeong Coffee Roasters has opened so many branches. The Haenggung-dong location is the flagship, and there are apparently branches near Janganmun and Hwahongmun, as well as in Dongtan and Uiwang, so keep that in mind when you visit.

Jeong Jiyeong Coffee Roasters Starfield Suwon Branch: location and atmosphere

Jeong Jiyeong Coffee Roasters Starfield Suwon Branch was a short walk from Hwaseo Station and the bus stop, making it convenient to reach by public transportation. If you drive, you can use the Starfield parking lot. The basic six hours of free parking was especially nice.

Location guide for the café at Starfield Suwon

The café was on the second floor of Starfield Suwon and had a clean, modern feel. There were bar seats too, so it seemed perfectly fine for a solo visit. It was a weekday afternoon, but there were quite a few customers, which showed how popular it is. Still, it was not noisy, so it was nice for a quiet chat.

The Haenggung flagship definitely seems to be the largest location.

How to order, coffee beans, and desserts

You order directly with a staff member at the counter. This location does not have a separate kiosk. For dine-in, each person needs to order one drink. Outside food is not allowed either.

Counter ordering and café use information

Pregnant customers can switch to decaf for free. As you would expect from a specialty coffee shop, they also offered hand-drip coffee and let you smell the beans.

Hand-drip coffee and coffee bean sampling information

Since the bean-sampling containers are glass and could break, you need to ask a staff member first. There were desserts including cookies and madeleines, plus the currently trendy cream-filled sando sandwiches.

Cookies, madeleines, and cream sando desserts

The fig sando looked absolutely gorgeous. When I visited before, there had been a mango sando, but this time only the fig version was available, probably because figs are in season now. The fig cake looked delicious too.

Along with cold brew, they sold a range of goods including coffee beans, drip bags, mugs, hats, and Lego items.

Affogato and coconut coffee taste test

I was tempted by the desserts too, but we had eaten a big lunch before coming, so we ordered only the affogato and coconut coffee.

An affogato with wonderfully nutty espresso

The affogato paired neat ice cream with a rich espresso shot. The ice cream itself was so good, but the espresso was delicious too: strongly nutty, without acidity or bitterness. The cup was lovely, and even the ice cream was served so prettily.

Rich espresso affogato

It is not especially inexpensive, but its nicely sweet-and-bitter flavor is so appealing that I think I would order it again.

Signature coconut coffee, served iced only

Their signature coconut coffee has sold 1.11 million cups and is apparently patented.

Iced-only coconut coffee

It is available only iced, and I liked that the serving was quite generous. You mix the cream on top well before drinking it. It had the nutty taste of coconut and just the right amount of sweetness, so it was delicious.

I think I liked it even more because it was not overly sweet. It was cool and sweet, and I finished it in no time.

Drinks on the table at Jeong Jiyeong Coffee Roasters

The staff were kind, which made this an even nicer café. If you are curious about the tasty affogato and patented coconut coffee, I recommend stopping by. I did not try it, but I heard the Guatemala drip coffee is really good too. Next time, I will have to try the drip coffee with a fruit sando.
