I wanted something spicy in Magok, so I headed to Songjjujip Magok. It's walkable from Magoknaru Station and easy to find on the 2nd floor of Central Tower 2. It's not just octopus — you get pork belly and vegetables piled into one pan too, so it worked well as a proper meal.

What one pan of jjukkumi-samgyeopsal looks like

The jjukkumi-samgyeopsal at Songjjujip Magok comes out as a full pan of seasoned octopus and pork belly topped generously with cabbage, minari (water dropwort), and other vegetables. Basic side dishes of perilla leaves, bean sprouts, chives, white kimchi, and seaweed came along with it.

A whole pan of jjukkumi-samgyeopsal ♡ The moment it arrived, the visual alone was packed full. Having pork belly along with the octopus made it much more filling than octopus alone, and as it cooked, the vegetables soaked up the sauce nicely, making them great to pick at too. The side dishes were chosen to pair well with the spicy octopus, so I mixed and matched a lot.

Is the cheese add-on worth it?

Adding cheese at Songjjujip Magok gave more than I expected. The heaped cheese melted from the heat and mixed into the octopus sauce, and the spicy sauce paired really well with the savory cheese.

Adding cheese on top made for a whole different flavor ♡ One bite of octopus, then a bite of cheese-coated pork belly. Even within one pan, there's fun in picking what to eat next. If you like cheese, it's worth adding it in ^^

The best bite: perilla leaf wraps

My favorite combination at Songjjujip Magok was the perilla leaf wrap. I put one plump octopus piece on a perilla leaf and added bean sprouts and chives before wrapping it up.

The chewy octopus with crunchy bean sprouts and the aroma of perilla leaf made it a totally different experience from eating it plain. Adding pork belly on top made it even heartier. The white kimchi was great for resetting the spice level in between bites.

When you want spicy octopus near Magoknaru Station

I liked that Songjjujip Magok let me eat octopus with pork belly and vegetables together, and add cheese to taste. Wrapping the octopus in perilla leaves was my favorite way to eat it. Since you're not stuck to just one way of eating — mixing octopus, pork belly, cheese, and vegetables however you like — I didn't get tired of it even through a whole pan.

If you're craving something spicy in Magok or looking for a comfortable spot to eat with a group, this is worth a visit. It works well as a proper meal or with a drink on the side, so it comes to mind for dinner plans too. If you love octopus, be sure to try the sari (extra noodles) and fried rice as well :)

If you're near Magoknaru Station craving something spicy and looking for a Magok octopus restaurant to share a hearty pan with a group, this one's worth stopping by 👍 Next time I'll save room for the final fried rice haha.
