Mala hot pot with corn noodles near Magongnaru Station: J's Pot Magok
In short
J's Pot Magok Branch is a single-serving hot pot (huoguo) restaurant on level B2 of the Le West COEX Magok building by Magongnaru Station in Gangseo, Seoul. The writer chose the mala tang broth with the basic vegetable set, added napa cabbage and fried tofu skin, then mixed a sauce at the sauce bar with mayu (garlic oil) sauce and cilantro. A set plus sauce came to the 20,000-won range for a filling meal, and J's Pot worked equally well for solo dining and a group dinner.

Where is J's Pot Magok Branch?
J's Pot Magok Branch is in the Le West COEX Magok building near Magongnaru Station. I found a hot pot restaurant near Magongnaru Station and it might be the best value spot around!

It's located inside the Le West COEX building!
Inside J's Pot Magok: the atmosphere

My first impression was that it's a Magongnaru hot pot spot, but it actually gives off a bit of a Hong Kong-style diner feel.
Menu, broth choices and prices at J's Pot Magok
At J's Pot Magok Branch, you pick a set first and then choose your broth, and you can eat your fill of hot pot for just around ₩20,000 haha.

There are so many sauce options, and they even have tom yum... crazy right? I went with mala and my friend picked tomato broth, and both were genuinely satisfying.
Seating for solo diners and group dinners
J's Pot Magok Branch has spacious seating and even group tables that can fit larger parties. Looks like some company was having their team dinner here?? It seemed like a genuinely special spot for a work dinner near Magongnaru Station. There's probably a reason it's known as a go-to group dinner spot near Magongnaru.

Everything was already set up at the table. So good, so good.

There was a hot pot set option too, but I ordered à la carte.

Though the set is also convenient.

This is the basic vegetable set. There's so much you don't even need to add anything else.

The extra napa cabbage is what I added on. It came pre-cut with scissors, ready to eat.
And I also ordered the fried tofu skin. This one's a must.
Solo dining near Magongnaru Station is so good.

You won't believe it, but this is a full spread for one person (with the napa cabbage and fried tofu skin add-ons).
I ended up ordering first and waiting for my friend to arrive. Of course, there's bar seating for solo diners too :) Come here for solo dining near Magok Station~
What's at the J's Pot sauce bar?
The sauce bar at J's Pot Magok Branch is self-serve, just like Haidilao. I went with the basic sauces, but heads up — the spices displayed in the back are just for decoration... don't try to take them like I did...
Loved the price too. It even has a sauce bar like Haidilao — totally satisfied. They've got pretty much everything you'd need haha.

You can even just grab cilantro freely. Scream.
While waiting, I diligently built my J's Pot Magok sauce. This part isn't for eating on its own — I thought I could just keep adding more to it haha.
Once everything's ready? They quickly bring it to a boil and drop in all the ingredients.
How does the personal mala hot pot broth taste?

The mala aroma really came through and blended so well with the ingredients, it was seriously delicious. Add more sesame-mayu sauce from the sauce bar and it tastes exactly like Haidilao!!! At a quarter of the price. This really is a great spot near Magongnaru~

For mala tang or mala shabu-shabu, I recommend the corn noodles. They're seriously delicious... I like them even more than glass noodles.
And once you boil the meatballs, they puff up to almost fist-sized and get so tasty haha.

Meat time~~!! It's great that you can control the heat individually, and since it's high heat, everything cooks fast. Tender and delicious, but if you overcook the meat it gets tough, so add it in quick and just right.

Beancurd skin (fuzhu) is best when it's boiled until soft and a bit tattered, and since it's your own individual pot, you can boil it exactly how you like. So tender, seriously insane, so good.

And if you're into cilantro, mixing it into your sauce lets you taste the mala flavor even more.

Eating it with my homemade secret sauce was seriously so good. I turned into a total pig...

And then we went for bingsu (shaved ice dessert) afterward, becoming even more of a pig.
Is J's Pot Magok worth it? Final verdict
A satisfying meal indeed.. 🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵 Personally, I was totally satisfied with J's Pot Magok, and I plan on going back again soon haha.
