Sokcho bakery haul frozen and air-fryer reheated: Doris Patisserie
In short
Doris Patisserie is a takeout-only bakery in a hot-pink building right in front of the entrance to Sokcho Central Market in Gangwon. A box of croho (egg tarts), 3 kinds of financiers and 3 kinds of madeleines were reserved by text the day before and collected at the 12:00 pickup slot, and the leftovers kept their crisp-outside, moist-inside texture after being frozen and briefly reheated in an air fryer. If you want egg tarts at Sokcho Central Market, texting Doris Patisserie in advance is the answer.

After a fun early-morning swim at Chesterton's in Sokcho, I came out genuinely starving — no exaggeration haha.
To fill my growling stomach, I headed straight to Sokcho Central Market! For lunch I loaded up on the market's famous eats — crispy-outside, tender-inside squid sundae (stuffed squid), sweet dakgangjeong (crispy fried chicken), and crunchy, savory abai sundae (blood sausage) fritters — and devoured the whole spread 🤤
But even with a full stomach, there's always room for dessert... anyone else feel me? 😉 I wanted something sweet after the meal, plus souvenirs for my family back home, so I looked into a spot famous for its egg tarts — Doris Patisserie!

Finding the hot-pink Doris Patisserie storefront at Sokcho Central Market
Doris Patisserie is basically attached to the entrance of Sokcho Central Market, so the location is honestly amazing. The building is a bold hot-pink, so it's impossible to miss even from a distance 👀
Standing out on its own in the middle of the market atmosphere, it's really hard to just walk past it haha.

How to reserve Doris Patisserie by text, plus a parking tip
If you're planning to visit Doris Patisserie, I strongly recommend pre-ordering by text over trying to buy on-site! On-site sales only work off whatever's left after reserved orders are filled, so on weekends there's a real risk of showing up and finding everything sold out ㅠㅠ

What the text reservation with Doris Patisserie looked like
- Pickup reservation: Saturday, September 5, pickup time 12:00–12:20
- 1 box croho (cream cheese & original mix set)
- 3 financiers (original, fig cream cheese, hwangchiz)
- 3 madeleines

The day before my visit, I texted them my pickup date, preferred time, and reserved menu, and got a reply super fast — really quick and convenient!

And for parking, no need to overthink it — I just parked at the Sokcho Tourist & Fisheries Market large public parking lot! The road in front of Doris Patisserie is right at the market entrance, so traffic is heavy and there's nowhere good to stop, so it's much easier on the nerves to park at the public lot and walk over 👍
Inside Doris Patisserie: the smell of bread straight from the oven

Opening the door, a sweet, savory butter scent gently spread through the air ✨

In the display case, golden-brown, glossy madeleines and financiers were lined up neatly.

Looking at the display case, I only saw the golden madeleines and financiers neatly arranged, with no egg tarts in sight, and for a second I thought 'did they already sell out?'
Turns out the egg tarts aren't kept out in the showcase ahead of time, to keep them warm — instead, the owner takes them fresh from the kitchen in the back and carefully packs them by hand 👍

Picked up my reserved order: 1 box croho, 3 financiers (original, fig cream cheese, hwangchiz), and 3 madeleines.

By the way, Doris Patisserie is a takeout-only shop, so I recommend grabbing coffee to go as well and enjoying it by the beach or in your car! They're also running a review event giving away egg tarts or financiers, so make sure to grab that if you visit 🎁
How do the croho egg tarts, financiers and madeleines taste?
Set everything up on the table at my accommodation and took a bite of the egg tart... wow, the crispiness is insane!! 💥 The Portuguese-style pastry crackles beautifully, and the layers of pastry are pure art.
The filling inside has zero eggy smell, and it's so moist and soft that it melts away in your mouth instantly 🤤

The cream cheese flavor (from the croho box) especially had that savory original taste plus a subtle, rich cream cheese depth added — really good without being heavy!

Of the 3 financiers I bought (original, fig cream cheese, hwangchiz), the fig cream cheese one was totally my type! The chewy, sweet, bursting fig pieces combined with the soft, salty cream cheese was just art 😋
Freezing leftover Doris Patisserie desserts and reheating them in an air fryer
I enjoyed everything with an iced Americano at my accommodation, and decided to bring the leftover desserts home to freeze and eat one at a time! After freezing them and giving them a quick spin in the air fryer, they came out just as crisp-outside, moist-inside as when they were freshly bought!!
