Madeleine & egg tart gift box pickup at Doris Patisserie, Sokcho
In short
Doris Patisserie is a bakery near Sokcho Central Market in Gangwon specializing in freshly baked egg tarts and butter pastries for takeout. Visiting with her kid, the writer reserved a box of 6 madeleines (₩18,000) and a box of 6 original egg tarts (₩15,000) for pickup, and the compartmented box kept everything from getting squished on the way home. The egg tarts were best eaten warm the same day, while the only downside was that the madeleines felt a bit oily to the touch on day one.

Whenever we travel to Sokcho with the kid, I always end up searching for good desserts or gift-worthy treats to bring home, you know? So I checked out Doris Patisserie, near Sokcho Central Market, which has been getting popular for its crispy fresh-baked egg tarts and sweet butter pastries!

I went with my kid, tried the charming snacks, and even got a nicely packed gift box to bring home — here's my honest review.

Before I dive into the desserts, let me give you the basics on Doris Patisserie for anyone planning a visit!

What is Doris Patisserie, the dessert spot near Sokcho Central Market?
Tucked in an alley near Sokcho Central Market, this is a takeout-only spot specializing in freshly baked, warm-from-the-oven tarts and butter pastries.

It's right along the route you'd naturally walk while wandering the market, so it's a great stop to swing by hand-in-hand with a kid for a snack.

From the clean exterior, a sweet, nutty buttery smell drifted out and built up my expectations before I even walked in.
Besides egg tarts, financiers, and madeleines, they also sell coffee and other drinks.

Skip the wait! Smart tips for round-based pickup and reservations

This place bakes fresh desserts in 3–4 rounds throughout the day, timed to their baking schedule.

Once a round's stock runs out, that round closes early, so if you want to buy at a specific time, the key is to actively use the reservation system!
- Reserved pickup windows: Round 1 (10:00–10:20), Round 2 (12:00–12:20), Round 3 (15:00–15:20)
- Walk-in sales: only leftover quantities after each round's reserved pickups are done (from 10:20, 12:20, 15:20 until sold out)
How do you make a reservation?
Starting at 6am the day before your pickup, check the 'News' tab on Naver Place, then send a text to the store number listed there to reserve. Confirmations go out in the order they're received, so if your Sokcho trip dates are set, I'd recommend reserving a day ahead and then visiting!
An impressively colorful gift box
We ordered a box of 6 madeleines (₩18,000) and a box of 6 original egg tarts (₩15,000).

The packaging box we got at the store was strikingly colorful and vibrant. The interior was neatly divided into compartments with each piece tucked in cleanly, so nothing got squished or jostled around during the trip!

Both the look and the assortment were so pretty that I thought this would be perfect to bring home as a no-pressure souvenir gift for family or friends after wrapping up the Sokcho trip.

How did the freshly baked egg tarts and madeleines taste?
We opened up the desserts we'd brought home and had a fun tea time with the kid. To really taste them fresh, I started with the egg tarts first!

Egg tart (original, 6-pack)
I took a bite right while it was still warm, and that signature crisp, flaky crunch of the pastry dough filled my mouth.

The egg custard filling inside was soft, moist, and sweet, like pudding. As noted in the purchase instructions, microwaving it can make the pastry shell soggy,

so eating it warm on the day of purchase really does deliver the best flavor!

It was sweet and moist, so my kid ate it up happily, and I got my proper sugar-and-coffee fix too!
Madeleine (6-pack)
The madeleines were mild in flavor overall but had a rich, nutty character.
Honestly, eating them fresh on the day of purchase, the surface felt a bit oily and left some residue on my hands, which was a small downside,

but I had them with beer alongside the egg tarts at night, and it was so good!
How was this as a snack course for a Sokcho trip with a kid?

Being able to enjoy delicious desserts near Sokcho Central Market with my kid and also bring home a fancy gift box made this a really satisfying stop.

The texture of that fresh-out-of-the-oven, crispy egg tart was so appealing that I still find myself thinking about it even now, after the trip is over!
If you're planning a trip to Sokcho, or looking for a special treat to enjoy with your kid, or a thoughtful Sokcho souvenir gift for family and friends,

I'd recommend reserving ahead and visiting Doris Patisserie~
