Uldong Bossam signature dish

I visited Uldong Bossam while looking for a hearty meal in Gyodong, Daegu. Bossam (boiled pork wraps) is great when the meat is tasty, of course, but I personally love a place where the kimchi and side dishes served alongside it are good too. Uldong Bossam lets you enjoy bossam with an entire spread of varied, home-style side dishes, so I visited with high expectations. From the bossam to all the accompaniments, everything was generously laid out—here’s my review after a properly satisfying meal.

What kind of place is Uldong Bossam in Dongin-dong, Daegu?

Uldong Bossam is a restaurant specializing in bossam in Dongin-dong, Daegu. It is also fairly close to Daegu City Hall, making it an easy choice for lunch or dinner for people working nearby, as well as family meals or get-togethers.

In particular, Uldong Bossam is not a place that simply serves bossam. They say they make the daily side dishes themselves and vary the selection using fresh seasonal ingredients. Rather than feeling like I was having just one plate of bossam, it felt more like being served a carefully prepared Korean table spread.

Exterior and interior atmosphere

As soon as you enter, you notice a clean atmosphere that feels a little different from a typical bossam restaurant.

The space felt bright, comfortable, and polished overall, so it looked nice for an easy lunch or a relaxed dinner with family or friends.

It is easy to picture bossam restaurants as a little rustic, but I also liked that Uldong Bossam lets you enjoy Korean food in such a neat space.

It also seems like an easy choice for a date night when you want Korean food, or for visiting with your parents.

How do you order?

Uldong Bossam has a table ordering system, so you can comfortably check the menu and order right from your seat. It was convenient to browse the menu slowly and place an order right away without having to call over a staff member.

The signature dish is, naturally, bossam! You can choose the size depending on the number of people, and we ordered the medium Uldong Bossam that day. Along with Uldong Bossam, there are various dishes such as suyuk jeongol (boiled pork hot pot), so it also seemed like a nice place to have a drink with dinner.

What are the basic side dishes like?

Uldong Bossam says it makes its side dishes in-house and chooses the most delicious ingredients of each season. That means you can try slightly different seasonal side dishes depending on when you visit, which is another plus.

They aim for home-style side dishes that feel carefully prepared at home rather than uniform factory-made ones, so it was fun to try this and that alongside the bossam. I think anyone who considers the basic side dishes just as important as the main dish would be very satisfied.

Finally, the medium Uldong Bossam, the main dish of the day, arrived.

The appetizingly sliced bossam came piled generously on the plate, with a moist sheen that made it look delicious at first glance.

With bossam, the most important thing is tender meat without any unpleasant pork smell, right? The pieces with a good balance of lean meat and fat felt especially moist, and taking a big bite with bossam and accompaniments wrapped together in ssam (leaf wraps) was wonderfully filling.

I had some meat on its own, then added the side dishes one by one, and even though it was the same bossam, I could enjoy so many combinations that I never got tired of it. The variety of side dishes made it feel less like one plate of bossam and more like a complete, properly set bossam meal.

Final Uldong Bossam meal spread

The bossam itself was good at Uldong Bossam, but I also liked the overall combination of the side dishes and the tidy restaurant atmosphere. It suited a day when I wanted a filling, carefully prepared Korean meal more than a place for a quick serving of bossam alone.

The medium Uldong Bossam we had was satisfying because we could enjoy a generous full spread. If you are looking for a good bossam restaurant around Dongin-dong or Daegu City Hall, it may be worth a visit. A warm piece of bossam with those thoughtfully prepared side dishes really was delicious—as bossam always is :)
