Daegu Korean restaurant, gondre rice mixed with soy sauce: Hyangtaek
In short
Hyangtaek Daebong Branch is a Korean sotbap (pot rice) restaurant in Jung-gu, Daegu, near Kim Kwang-seok Street and Bangcheon Market. The order was mackerel gondre rice (14,000 won) and an eggplant doenjang rice bowl (13,000 won), each mixed with the soy seasoning and kelp vinegar exactly as the in-store "how to enjoy" sign explains, with the free seasoned jeotgal (salted seafood) and crinkled gim (seaweed) wraps the standout. A neat, well-plated Korean spread that also suits group meals and wedding-invitation lunches.

Inside Hyangtaek Daebong Branch and the weekday receipt review event
The interior has a wood-toned look, cozy and comfortable! With big tables it seems great for group meals too. Open kitchen, so you can trust the hygiene!! 👍🏻

On weekdays they run a receipt review event!! You get a free hanpan mushroom~~ Be sure to grab that perk 😖

You know you have to follow the 'how to enjoy' guide to really taste it right, right? 😎

What side dishes and dipping sauces come with a meal at Hyangtaek?
The basic side dishes are doenjang (soybean paste) soup, pickled gungchae (aster stem), seasoned jeotgal (salted seafood), and roasted gim (seaweed). ++ The mackerel gondre rice comes with soy sauce seasoning, and the eggplant doenjang bowl comes with kelp vinegar.

The seasoned jeotgal looked so good,, gotta wrap it in the roasted gim 🤤

How does the mackerel gondre rice (14,000 won) taste?
The mackerel gondre rice (₩14,000) is packed with nuttily grilled mackerel and fragrant gondre (dried mountain herb). It's also topped with mushrooms, chives, and sesame seeds.

Whoa, can you see how meaty that mackerel is,, I tore it apart with my chopsticks then added the soy sauce seasoning that comes with it and mixed it all up~! If you add it all at once it can get salty, so I'd recommend tasting as you go!! The combo of nutty gondre and fatty mackerel was so good 👍🏻

What is the eggplant doenjang rice bowl (13,000 won) like?
The eggplant doenjang rice bowl (₩13,000) is savory doenjang with fragrant eggplant!! It's also topped with chives and puffed rice.

I tore up the eggplant with my chopsticks and ate it together with the various toppings. Thanks to the doenjang, it had a clean but deep flavor. Adding the seasoned jeotgal that comes with it made it pair even better~~

I wrapped it in gim too and also added the soy sauce seasoning that comes with the mackerel rice, ha0ha. Eating it together was so good,, hehe 🐷 A good meal again today
