Mentaiko mayo rice bowl set at Namcheon-dong Japanese diner: Daidokoro
In short
Daidokoro Gwangalli Main Branch is a Japanese home-style diner on Namcheondong-ro 108beon-gil in Suyeong, Busan. Three of us ordered the signature chicken nanban set, the mentaiko mayo rice bowl (myeongnan mayo deopbap) set, and the assorted croquette curry set, and every set meal arrived with rice, soup, a fried egg, salad, and milk pudding. Daidokoro is an easy, filling meal to pair with a walk along Gwangalli Beach or a date course.

Today I went to Daidokoro Gwangalli Main Branch, a really famous Japanese home-style restaurant in Gwangalli! I've always loved cute little Japanese home-style meals, and this Daidokoro in Gwangalli nailed the cute visuals as well as the taste and value, so I really wanted to introduce it. If you're looking for things to do in Gwangalli or a good place to eat in Namcheon-dong, stick with me till the end :)
Where is Daidokoro Gwangalli Main Branch, and where can you park?
Daidokoro Gwangalli Main Branch is on the 2nd floor at 27 Namcheondong-ro 108beon-gil, Suyeong-gu, Busan, near Geumnyeonsan and Namcheon stations, so it's close to Gwangalli Beach too. There's no dedicated parking lot, so if you're driving you'll need to use the nearby Suyeong-gu Office parking lot or a paid lot nearby.

This Namcheon-dong diner is close to Gwangalli Beach and near Geumnyeonsan/Namcheon stations, making it a great spot to pair with a beach walk or a Gwangalli date course. There's no dedicated parking, so if you're driving, I'd recommend the nearby Suyeong-gu Office parking lot or a paid lot in the area.
I heard weekday lunches can have a wait because of nearby office workers making reservations. If there's a wait, definitely use the Catch Table sign in front of the restaurant.
Inside Daidokoro Gwangalli: atmosphere and table setting
The interior had a Japanese feel, with white walls and wooden tables. Figures and cute little props were scattered around, which was fun to look at while waiting for the food.

Overall the space had clean white walls paired with warm wooden tables. Seeing the neatly set tables under soft lighting put me in a good mood before the meal even started. It felt tidy and clean overall, making it a great spot to visit with a friend or on a date.

On the table were paper cups, salad dressing, furikake, shichimi (Japanese seven-spice), a pudding spoon, and water.
There was a guestbook notebook on one side of the table, so I left a message too ☺️

Daidokoro's menu and what three of us ordered
Daidokoro's signature menu is made up of various Japanese home-style set meals like the chicken nanban set, tonkatsu set, and curry set. Ordering a set brings not just the main dish but rice, soup, a fried egg, salad, and even a cute pudding for dessert — a really satisfying full spread.

We ordered Daidokoro's signature chicken nanban set, the mentaiko mayo donburi set, and the assorted croquette curry set...! As soon as the food arrived, we couldn't help but gasp at how neat and cute it all looked.

Mentaiko mayo rice bowl set at Daidokoro
Daidokoro's mentaiko donburi (spicy pollack roe rice bowl) has a long history — it was once featured on 'Human Documentary: The Master.' The donburi came with mentaiko, flying fish roe, onion, a fried egg, and wasabi over rice. Colorful and neatly arranged, it's the picture of a classic Japanese-style rice bowl.

The savory, salty pop of the mentaiko combined with the smoothness of the mayo, and the flavor filled my mouth the moment I took a bite. Break the yolk and mix it all together, and every grain of rice gets coated in savory richness — seriously addictive...! It wasn't overly salty, seasoned just right, and I finished the bowl in no time as I kept mixing and eating — a total rice thief of a dish.

Assorted croquette curry set at Daidokoro
The assorted croquette curry set comes with Japanese curry and a generous helping of golden, crispy assorted croquettes. Overall the portion was really hearty and neatly presented — just looking at it was filling, haha.
The curry tasted like it had been simmered carefully for a long time, deep and rich with Japanese flavor, and had just the right balance of spicy-sweet that paired well with both the rice and the fried food. The croquettes were fried really crispy, with soft, fluffy potato and various fillings packed inside.
Dip the crispy croquette deep into the rich curry sauce and you get that crisp-outside, soft-inside texture along with the full curry flavor at once.

Chicken nanban set meal at Daidokoro
Daidokoro's chicken nanban set came with a fried egg, croquette, curry sauce, fried tofu, radish pickles, milk pudding, chili peppers, and kimchi. The golden, crispy karaage (Japanese fried chicken) was piled generously with savory white tartar sauce, and it looked absolutely delicious.
The karaage was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and paired with Daidokoro's own house-made tartar sauce it was fresh and savory at the same time. The sauce cut through what could have been a greasy fried dish, so I could eat every last piece without getting tired of it. Mix the fried egg into the rice and top it with a piece of chicken — that's the perfect combination ❤️
The milk pudding we finished with at the end was sweet and smooth, giving the meal a perfect ending. From the main dish to dessert, it was a thoroughly satisfying meal 🤍

Who should visit Daidokoro Gwangalli Main Branch, and when?
From cute, neat Japanese home-style dishes to perfect flavor and adorable visuals, Daidokoro Gwangalli Main Branch delivered on everything! From the signature chicken nanban set to the savory, salty mentaiko donburi, to the assorted croquette curry set with its crispy fried food and deep curry aroma — every single dish was thoroughly satisfying.
If you're looking for a great meal in Namcheon-dong, or thinking about things to do in Gwangalli where you can enjoy a date and a meal in a cute atmosphere, I highly recommend visiting Daidokoro Gwangalli Main Branch :)
