Charcoal-grilled Korean beef and doenjang ramen in Namcheon-dong

In short

Joseon Hanwoo is a charcoal-grilled Korean beef (hanwoo) restaurant near Suyeong-gu Office in Namcheon-dong, Busan. Three servings of raw galbisal (rib flap) were grilled over charcoal and eaten with pickled onion, myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves) and baek kimchi, then finished off with doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) topped with ramen noodles and rice. It's a solid pick in Namcheon-dong for charcoal-grilled hanwoo without the usual price shock.

Grilling tender galbisal (rib flap) over charcoal and finishing with doenjang ramen ✨

When you're going for beef in Namcheon-dong, taste matters but so does price, right?! Joseon Hanwoo was a place I'd had my eye on while looking for a good Busan Namcheon-dong meat restaurant. Grilling hanwoo (Korean beef) over charcoal and finishing with doenjang ramen and rice made me feel like I'd properly eaten meat for once. 😊

A comfortable atmosphere for enjoying meat

After we sat down, the side dishes to go with the meat started coming out one by one.

Side dishes served together with the meat

Baek kimchi and myeongi namul side dishes

Pickled onion, chonggak kimchi (young radish kimchi), radish pickles, and garlic scapes came out — all good for cutting through the richness of the beef in between bites. There was even baek kimchi (white kimchi) and myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves), so mixing different combinations with each bite was pretty fun. ✨

When I eat beef, I prefer pairing it with tangy or clean side dishes rather than just eating meat non-stop. So I liked that there was a good variety of banchan (side dishes).

Self-serve bar for side dishes and drinks

You can easily grab more side dishes from the self-serve bar, and drinks and alcohol are also self-serve whenever you need them.

We had Kelly and Chamisul (soju) that day too! A meal like this really calls for a drink alongside it. 😆

Charcoal made the raw galbisal, ₩15,900, taste even better

Three ordered servings of raw galbisal on a plate

What we ordered first was three servings of raw galbisal.

Charcoal brazier brought to the table

After a short wait, the charcoal came out and we got ready to properly start grilling. 🔥

The galbisal on the plate had a glossy sheen and visible marbling right from the surface.

Joseon Hanwoo uses grade 1 or higher hanwoo — 1+ and 1++ — and slices the meat fresh once an order comes in, according to the restaurant. They also mentioned using meat aged for at least 10 days in an aging chamber.

Hanwoo galbisal placed on the charcoal

At ₩15,900, the price of the galbisal caught my eye first, but once I actually got the meat, the quality looked pretty appetizing too. So I thought this place would be worth noting for anyone looking for a Busan local favorite meat restaurant who cares about both price and meat quality.

Once the galbisal hit the charcoal, the surface cooked quickly and a savory smell started rising. Rather than overcooking it, we grilled it to just the right point and took a bite right away.

With each chew, the savory meaty flavor came through, and the galbisal's characteristic tender texture combined with a subtle char smokiness kept me reaching for more. 😋 It was fine on its own, but eating it with pickled onion cleaned the palate nicely each time.

Wrapping it in myeongi namul or pairing it with baek kimchi gave it a different feel each time, so it stayed enjoyable to eat right to the end without getting tired of it! Being able to enjoy charcoal-grilled hanwoo with this many pairings was something I really liked about this particular Namcheon-dong meat restaurant.

Can't skip the doenjang ramen after all that meat

Doenjang jjigae with added ramen noodles

Once we'd nearly finished the meat, we ordered doenjang jjigae with added ramen noodles. They thoughtfully placed it right on the remaining charcoal.

Watching it bubble away right where we'd been grilling made even the waiting feel oddly delicious. 🤭 Joseon Hanwoo's doenjang jjigae reportedly uses a broth simmered from hanwoo bones for over 10 hours.

Tasting it, the broth felt a bit different from a typical doenjang jjigae. It wasn't just a deep, savory soybean paste flavor — there was also the rich depth of beef broth, finishing with a clean, refreshing edge.

With the ramen noodles cooking in it and soaking up the broth, it was a great way to close out the meal after all that meat.

And in the end, we couldn't help but order a bowl of rice too. 😅 We'd clearly eaten our fill of meat, but it just felt like such a waste to leave the doenjang ramen broth behind. Haha.

Meal finished off with doenjang ramen and rice

One bite of ramen, one spoonful of rice — that's when it finally felt like we'd had a proper full meal.

Who would this suit

Joseon Hanwoo feels like a place I'd think of again whenever I want easy charcoal-grilled Korean beef in Namcheon-dong.

It should suit anyone looking for a Busan Namcheon-dong meat restaurant, or wanting to enjoy hanwoo without as much of a price burden. It's especially good if you're searching for Namcheon-dong beef restaurants and like the raw galbisal-and-charcoal combo, or if you're someone who likes to finish a meat meal off with stew and rice.

If you're looking for a Busan local favorite meat restaurant where you can enjoy hanwoo without breaking the bank, Joseon Hanwoo is worth keeping in mind! 💙
