Gwangalli self-serve pickle bar and dinner with a friend: Extra Mile

It was a day I finally met up with a friend in Gwangalli after a long time, for a good dinner.

There are so many good restaurants in Gwangalli, but this time we were looking for somewhere with a nice atmosphere where we could chat comfortably over pizza and pasta, and ended up at Extra Mile. It's run together with Pickles, the famous pizza restaurant in Jeonpo, which made me even more excited...

So let me introduce Extra Mile, a hot spot in Gwangalli!

How to find Extra Mile in Gwangalli, and where to park

Extra Mile is near Gwangalli, so it's a great pick when you're looking for a place to eat around there. I took the subway, came out at Exit 5, and got there in no time on foot haha.

Parking does take a bit of thought though — you can't park right in front of the restaurant, so if you're driving you'll need to use a nearby private or public parking lot. We used a public lot nearby, and the parking fee was pretty reasonable, so it wasn't a burden.

Inside Extra Mile: the full-window seats

Walking inside, the vibe was casual and comfortable overall. Since it's mainly a pizza and pasta place, it didn't feel too formal — more like a good spot to eat easily with friends or a partner.

The inside was pretty spacious with quite a lot of tables. With so many windows overall, it felt open and pleasant too.

There were also seats facing the kitchen.

By the way, isn't the restaurant really pretty? haha

I liked the window seats so I grabbed one :) Each table already had cutlery and a menu neatly set out!

Extra Mile has something special. Every table has crayons and a colorable tablecloth, so you can freely doodle and color while waiting for your food :) Oh, the knife is a Sabre product? So cute...

Extra Mile's Classic Combo (set for two) is ₩42,000, and you can pick one pizza and one pasta. We went with the hot honey pepperoni & salad pizza and the bisque cream pasta.

Extra Mile has a variety of pizza and pasta menus. For pizza, you can choose from many different toppings and flavors to suit your taste, and ordering it with a pasta means two people can try a range of dishes. After some thought, we decided on the Classic Combo set for two that day. You get one pizza and one pasta, making it the most fitting order for two people!

Coloring with crayons while the food comes

We ordered and then tried coloring with the crayons!! The time passed quickly and it was actually really fun? My friend and I even wrote messages to each other, which turned into a surprisingly meaningful moment... kind of touching...

Coloring away like this, I thought Extra Mile would be a great restaurant to visit with a kid in Gwangalli. Definitely coming back with my kid next time!!

Pickles and water are freely available at the self-serve bar. The pickles here are really tasty... just so you know...

How is the half hot honey pepperoni, half salad pizza?

Extra Mile's hot honey pepperoni & salad half-and-half pizza lets you enjoy two flavors on one pie. While we were drawing, the food came out pretty fast?? My friend and I both gasped at how gorgeous it looked!!

First up was the hot honey pepperoni & salad half-and-half pizza! Getting two flavors on one pie was especially nice for visiting with a friend. One side was spicy, salty hot honey pepperoni, and the other was a relatively light and fresh salad pizza, so we got to taste two totally different styles of pizza at once, which I loved...

The hot honey pepperoni had that salty, rich pepperoni flavor plus a spicy kick, so it really delivered that classic pizza taste.

The salad pizza on the other side had vegetables added, making it relatively light and refreshing. Eating it with a friend, we kept alternating between the spicy-rich side and the fresh side. If you're someone who gets tired of just one flavor, ordering a half-and-half is a great way to go.

Bisque cream pasta topped with gamtae seaweed

Next up is the bisque cream pasta :) A special pasta topped with gamtae (dried laver seaweed), no less.

This pasta had a bisque sauce with the rich flavor of shrimp and shellfish, and it went really well with the noodles. The sauce itself was so rich in flavor that it soaked thoroughly into the noodles, and it paired well with the pizza too.

After the rich taste of the pizza's cheese and pepperoni, switching to the bisque pasta brought out a whole different kind of umami. With the two of us ordering one pizza and one pasta to share, the menu combination felt pretty substantial :)

And the shrimp is really generous :)

Extra Mile in Gwangalli, visited to meet a friend and have a good meal!! We ordered the hot honey pepperoni & salad half-and-half pizza and the bisque pasta, and getting two different pizza flavors plus a rich pasta together made it perfect for splitting between two people.
