After eating, I really wanted a cool dessert with my family. Instead of just grabbing coffee somewhere, we decided on bingsu (shaved ice dessert) since it fits summer so well, and that's how we ended up at Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store. It's right in the Simhaksan food alley, so it seemed like a good spot to swing by for dessert after a meal. We visited with family that day and went with the melon bingsu, ₩28,000! We debated the mango bingsu too, but everyone wanted melon, so that's what we ordered.

We drove there, and free parking right in front of the shop made things easy. There's parking space if you go inside the building, and when we visited there were quite a lot of other visitors. On weekends or busy hours, you might have to wait a bit for a spot, but overall having parking available while moving around with family was convenient.

The shop is on the 2nd floor, so we went up a flight of stairs to reach it.

Once inside, the space was cleaner and better arranged than I expected. It had an overall bright, comfortable vibe, so it felt easy to visit with family, and the tables were spaced well enough to sit and enjoy bingsu without feeling cramped. When we visited, there were a lot of family groups — everything from families with kids to tables of adults only — so the atmosphere felt relaxed. Fruit displayed all around the shop gave it a bit of a different feel from a regular café, and being able to see fresh fruit right there, true to a fruit specialty shop, was a nice touch. Honestly, browsing the shop before digging into the bingsu was pretty fun too, haha.

True to a fruit specialty café, the showcase had all kinds of fruit displayed — melon, mango, and various fresh fruits neatly arranged. You could also buy the fruit itself, not just order bingsu, with cup fruit and fruit gift sets for sale too. Probably because of that, there were customers there just to buy fruit, not only ones there for bingsu.

Melon bingsu at 28,000 won: one bowl for the whole family

We looked over the menu for a while and finally went with the melon bingsu, ₩28,000. Eating together as a family, ordering one to share worked out well.

After ordering, we got a buzzer and waited — it came out faster than I expected.

The moment the bingsu arrived, the visual really caught my eye. The big chunks of melon piled on top looked really appetizing, and there was ice cream on top in the center too. It was impossible not to take photos, so we all snapped away before eating, haha.

How the sweet melon and milk shaved ice tasted

The melon bingsu at Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store had generous melon piled on top with soft milk shaved ice underneath. The ice wasn't the rough, crunchy kind — it melted smoothly in the mouth, which I liked. Eating the melon together with the milk ice especially, the sweet, soft flavors went really well together.

The cool, sweet flavor unique to melon combined with the nutty, soft taste of the milk ice made for a perfect summer combo. Everyone in my family took a bite and said it was so good. My family member who especially loves melon was busy picking out melon pieces first, haha. Eating bingsu alone for too long can start to feel a bit sweet, but having melon in between kept things refreshing and kept us reaching for more.

Personally, with fruit bingsu, the condition of the fruit matters a lot to me. The melon we had that day had a soft texture with just the right amount of juice, so it went really well with the shaved ice. Being a fruit specialty shop, everything about the fruit felt cleanly prepared overall.

Instead of just eating the melon on top, scooping it together with the milk ice definitely tasted even better. Chatting away with family while eating, the bingsu disappeared faster than expected.

Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store is right in the Simhaksan food alley, so it was a good dessert stop after a meal. If you're out with family around Paju and craving a cool dessert on a hot day, sharing a bowl of bingsu here would be a good pick. The shop is on the cleaner side, and we saw a lot of families visiting, so it was easy to use comfortably. Besides the melon bingsu, there's mango bingsu and other fruit menus, so I'd like to try something else next time.
