Hongdae BBQ restaurant with no smoke smell on clothes: Gogikkun Gim
In short
Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant on the 3rd floor of a building 445m from Exit 9 of Hongik University Station in Mapo, Seoul. Three friends shared the hanwoo beef and Korean pork set for two with dice rice and half-and-half naengmyeon (cold noodles), and even a two-person set was enough food, with staff grilling every piece so the table could just talk and eat. The ventilation at Gogikkun Gim Chunbae was strong enough that almost no smoke smell clung to their clothes on the way out.

If you're an office worker, Monday is the hardest day.. I was especially stressed this particular Monday so I told my friends let's eat something good — and that meant samgyeopsal (pork belly), the soul food of every office worker!
I figured eating bad meat would just stress me out more lol, so I went to Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch, famous as a Hongdae go-to spot.

Where is Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch, and what are the hours?
Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch is at 36 Hongikro 3-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, 3rd floor. It's about 445m from Exit 9.
It's so close that it's convenient for anyone looking for Hongdae restaurants or Hapjeong restaurants.

It's on the 3rd floor so you have to walk up the stairs — there's no elevator.
⏰ Hours: 3rd floor 12:00–23:00 (last order 22:00) / 4th floor 12:30–22:30 (last order 21:30). Note that the 4th floor opens 30 minutes later and closes 30 minutes earlier than the 3rd floor.
Inside Gogikkun Gim Chunbae: the room and the staff-grilling service

With the wood interior and yellow lighting, the whole place has that vibe that makes meat look delicious.

The restaurant is spacious too, so even three of us could sit comfortably without feeling cramped. And as we ate I noticed a ton of foreign visitors too?? Korean groups like company dinners come in decent numbers, and lots of foreign visitors too, but it still felt private, which I liked.
Even better, the staff grill all the meat for you so all you have to do is eat haha. As you can see in the photos, the ventilation sucks up the smoke really well too, so almost no smell stuck to my body when I left the restaurant. I've been to other branches of Gogikkun Gim Chunbae too, and every one of them has been friendly, so I always feel comfortable eating there.
What three of us ordered: the beef and pork set for two, dice rice and half-and-half naengmyeon

The three of us ordered the hanwoo/hanpork set for two + dice rice + half-and-half naengmyeon (cold noodles). If you can't skip sides at a BBQ place, this combo is perfect!
All the sides looked so good that we agreed to order two sides with the 2-person meat set lol. Conclusion: extremely satisfied 😋

Gogikkun Gim Chunbae reportedly uses refrigerator-aged meat, and you could definitely feel the freshness.
You can see the freshness of the meat even better on video — isn't that color just gorgeous?

Photos come out great, and every cut was tastier than I expected.. 🐷
Hanwoo sirloin at Gogikkun Gim Chunbae
Even though it was cut thick, the hanwoo (Korean beef) sirloin was so tender and full of juice — I think they cut it into a size that keeps the juice from escaping, because it was seriously juicy.

Side dishes: myeoljeot, wild garlic leaves and white kimchi
The banchan (side dishes) and sides were all delicious too, so the meat never got tiring and I just kept eating. On top of the basics — salt and ssamjang — there were quite a lot of options: braised onion, green onion kimchi, myeolnamul (wild garlic leaves), white kimchi, and myeoljeot (fermented anchovy sauce).

I especially love myeoljeot, white kimchi, and myeolnamul, so I ate really well switching up the combinations.

Pork belly and pork galbisal (boneless short rib meat)
Next up, pork belly and pork galbisal (rib meat)! It honestly tasted even better than the beef.. the fat was completely chewy and it brought back my appetite after getting a bit sick of the richness from the beef!

Around the time the pork was grilling, the side dishes we'd also ordered arrived.

Half-and-half naengmyeon (cold noodles, two ways)
Half-and-half naengmyeon (cold noodles), served in a bowl like jjamjjamyeon! I really can't choose between red bean bungeoppang and cream bungeoppang, or water naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon.. because both are delicious..;;
But when there's a menu that gives you half of each, there's no need to agonize, and it's easy to share too, which was really convenient.

How do you resist meat on top of naengmyeon
Dice rice, the grilled rice finisher
If you're Korean, how do you resist fried rice at a BBQ place lol. Dice rice went really well with the meat too, and the portion was pretty generous!!

Enjoy it together with the meat ~ Even though it was a set for two, the three of us weren't left wanting more, and after finishing the dice rice and half-and-half naengmyeon too, we ended the meal extremely full.

Even the restroom was spotless, so much so that I felt like this place couldn't be left off any list of Hongdae samgyeopsal spots!
Is Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae worth it? Final verdict
The meat was fresh, the atmosphere was nice, and with staff grilling everything for us, it was great being able to just talk and eat comfortably. If you're looking for a place to eat meat with friends in Hongdae, check out Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch!
