Suwon Hommaesil hot pot restaurant maternity discount: Ok Doenjang
In short
Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch is a hot pot Korean restaurant on Geumgok-ro in Hommaesil, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon. Now that the weather's gotten a bit cooler, I've really been craving a hot soup dish haha. This time we took the kids to Ok Doenjang Hommaesil Branch, a lunch spot in Hommaesil! With a name like Ok Doenjang I obviously wanted the doenjang (soybean paste) hot pot, but the staff said the doenjang dishes were a bit spicy, so I gave up on that for eating with the kids ㅠㅠ Instead we ordered the mixed pork hot pot, and honestly it was basically a whole restorative feast in a pot…? Hahaha

Where is Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch, and what are the hours?
📍 Location / hours — Ok Doenjang Hommaesil Branch is open 11:00 – 23:00. Since it runs from lunch into late evening, it's good for a meal any time, and it also looked like a nice spot for hot pot with a drink at night. When we went, quite a few tables actually had drinks going haha.

Inside Ok Doenjang: atmosphere and seating
🪑 A clean, comfortable place. Walking into Ok Doenjang Hommaesil Branch, the first thing I noticed was how spacious and tidy it was — bigger than expected. I pictured a bustling hot pot joint, but everything was well organized and the tables weren't cramped, so it was comfortable sitting with the kids. There are high chairs too, so if you're visiting with children, good to know :)

Ok Doenjang's menu: why the mixed pork hot pot beat the doenjang hot pot
📖 True to its name, Ok Doenjang has a wide range of doenjang hot pots, plus sundubu (soft tofu) hot pot, pork hot pot, beef short rib hot pot, and more hot soup dishes. Lots of good lunch options, and at dinner you can pair a hot pot with minari jeon (minari pancake) or squid dishes for drinks — so it works both as a Hommaesil lunch spot and a Hommaesil place to grab a drink at night.
Since I was at Ok Doenjang I really wanted to try the doenjang hot pot…🥹 But when I asked about eating it with the kids, they said it's a bit spicy, so I boldly gave up on it haha. Instead, I chose this!

What comes in the mixed pork hot pot, and how it tastes
🍲 The moment I saw the mixed pork hot pot, I thought… wait, isn't this basically a restorative dish? Hahaha. It had sliced pork, beef tendon, minari, wood ear mushroom, and even glass noodles — much more generous than I expected. Eating it hot and bubbling was just perfect for this slightly cooler weather.

Once it starts boiling as instructed on the table, turn the heat down, and once the minari is cooked enough, eat it together with the meat. If the broth runs low, you can get a refill :)

It wasn't just meat — it was fun fishing out different ingredients one by one, plus chewy beef tendon along the way! And you can't skip the glass noodles in a hot pot like this haha. Slurping them up with the broth, we kept the pot simmering and eating. With rice, it made for a really filling meal, and I understood why it's such a popular lunch order.

Visiting Ok Doenjang with kids: gim isn't a standard side at dinner
👶 Ok Doenjang Hommaesil Branch has high chairs and separate kids' tableware. We visited in the evening, and since we had kids, the staff first brought out a plate of gim (seaweed) for us!
I naturally assumed it was a standard side dish haha, and since my second kid was eating it so well, I asked for a bit more… but it turns out gim comes standard at lunch, not at dinner 🤣 That first plate was just something they gave us because we had kids with us 🥹
But by then the kids already knew the taste of gim… and there was no turning back for mom… so in the end we ordered more and paid for it haha. Wrapping rice and meat in the gim, my second kid ate it up happily. If you're visiting with kids at dinner, just know that gim isn't included by default :)

5% pregnancy discount at Ok Doenjang: bring your maternity handbook
🤰 At Ok Doenjang Hommaesil Branch, if you bring your maternity handbook, pregnant customers get a 5% discount. I only found this out after we'd finished eating… turns out there was a 5% pregnancy discount 😇
Me? I only found out while looking at photos after we finished eating 🤣 I did the math and it came out to a little over ₩2,000, so I decided to just let it go coolly… 🥹 haha. If you're pregnant, don't miss it like I did — bring your maternity handbook!
Final verdict on Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch
💛 At first I thought, I'm at Ok Doenjang, I have to get the doenjang hot pot! But since I was with the kids, I switched to the mixed pork hot pot instead. Once it arrived though, with pork, beef tendon, minari, and glass noodles all in there, it felt like I'd eaten a whole hot, hearty restorative pot of a meal haha.
The place was clean and had high chairs, so it was good for a meal with the kids. I got the sense that a lot of people come for a filling lunch, and others come for hot pot and drinks at night. If you're craving a hot Korean dish and looking for a Hommaesil lunch spot, this could be worth a stop :) And to all the pregnant readers… bring your maternity handbook 🤣
