Short-hair volume perm at a Suyu hair salon in Seoul: Salon de Chae
In short
Salon de Chae Suyu Branch is a hair salon in Gangbuk, Seoul, on the second floor of a building in the alley by Suyu Station Exit 6. After cutting her hair short, the writer's mom was bothered by flat volume at the crown and back, so she got a volume perm from the head designer from Yeouido, with a consultation and instructions on how to style it at home. Even on short hair the perm never looked puffy — only the crown volume came back naturally — and mom was happy with the result.

My mom cut her hair short a while ago, but she said styling actually got harder after the cut. Especially the crown and back sections went flat really quickly, so volume was her biggest concern — that's why we decided to try a perm this time. While looking for a hair salon near Suyu Station, I booked Salon de Chae, and we went together to get her treated by the head designer from Yeoido.

Where is Salon de Chae Suyu Branch, and what are its hours?
Salon de Chae Suyu Branch is on the 2nd floor of a building at 10 Dobong-ro 83-gil, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul. Hours are Mon–Sat 10:00–20:00 and Sun 12:00–19:00, with reservations taken through Naver Reservations. You get 2 hours of free parking (parking fee covered).

When I visited, the area near Exit 5 of Suyu Station was under construction, so I came out through Exit 6 and walked into the alley — I found it quickly, and the yellow sign on the 2nd floor was easy to spot once we got close!

At the entrance there was a sign showing it's an official Villa Lodola Color partner salon. I don't usually pay much attention to that kind of thing, but seeing it before going in gave me a bit of extra trust.

Inside Salon de Chae Suyu Branch
Inside, the salon was bigger than I expected. It was all white-toned, so it felt bright, clean, and pleasant. There was a separate waiting area, and they also sold a variety of hair products.

How did the volume perm consultation go?
Before starting, the designer from Yeoido first checked my mom's hair condition and consulted with her. Since her hair is quite short right now, he looked carefully at how to apply the perm so it would look natural.
Volume was mom's biggest concern of all! Once she explained that the crown and overall hair were going flat, he agreed to bring the volume back naturally.
Before

The short-hair volume perm, step by step
After the consultation, he started applying the product, and watching from the side, his hands were genuinely fast. I thought, a veteran really is different.
It seemed like it would be a bit easier to roll longer hair, but since my mom's hair was so short, it didn't look simple at all. Before I knew it, he'd finished rolling all the rods and moved on to heat treatment. Once the machine was set on her head, it was time to wait properly. Perms take a while, so I figured I'd just be on my phone next to her. But they brought over coffee and snacks. I thought they'd only take care of my mom, but they took care of me too while I waited...

After the shampoo, mom said it was the coolest, most refreshing shampoo she'd ever had at a salon haha.
After the shampoo, they trimmed her hair once more to match the perm shape, and finished by blow-drying to set the overall shape. They also explained in detail how to style it at home. Honestly, the biggest reason mom wanted a perm this time wasn't just to look pretty — it was that daily styling had become too hard. No matter how nice it looks at the salon, it doesn't mean much if she can't manage it herself at home. I really liked that they explained exactly how to dry and style it at home.
Crown volume before and after the perm
After

Before the perm, her crown and the back were flat overall, which made her hair look even flatter. After the perm, the volume was clearly restored. The crown especially lifted naturally, making everything look nicer overall, and her hair even looked thicker than before.
The curl wasn't too strong, and the short hair didn't puff up excessively either — it settled naturally to match her face shape and current length, so mom was satisfied. I was a little worried that a perm on short hair might end up looking too frizzy, but it came out much softer and more natural than I expected, and I liked it too.

VIP membership and root-color prepaid passes
Salon de Chae also runs a VIP membership and root touch-up passes. Depending on the membership amount, there are extra discounts and full scalp care benefits, and it can also be shared with family and friends — worth considering if you visit often.
Why Salon de Chae is worth it as a hair salon near Suyu Station
I originally came for mom's perm, but watching everything from the first consultation to the final styling made me want to come here for my own hair next time.
- They didn't jump straight into the treatment on arrival — they checked the current hair condition first, listened to what my mom found uncomfortable, and then decided on a direction
- The head designer from Yeoido brought back natural volume matched to the short length, suited to a style where volume tends to fall flat
- The explanations were thorough, and at the end they even explained how to style it at home
I've been looking for a salon to settle into lately too, so next time I'm thinking of visiting for a volume magic straightening treatment. If you're looking for a Suyu hair salon or a hair salon near Suyu Station, I'd recommend the head designer from Yeoido at Salon de Chae!
