After-work original chimney bread and grapefruit ade in Dobong

In short

Uisagye is a café in Dobong, Seoul, set inside a renovated 50-year-old red brick house along Uicheon Stream. Visiting after work on a weekday with her sister, the writer sat upstairs and had original chimney bread, a café latte, and grapefruit ade, finding the freshly baked chimney bread crisp outside and chewy inside. It's a great café to visit when you want a quiet rest with a full window view of the stream.

The café I'm introducing this time is Uisagye. It sits along Uicheon Stream in Suyu, in a pretty renovated house. The full windows let in gorgeous sunlight and a lush green view — such a pretty space. I went after work with my sister and honestly healed the whole time I was there :) It's located on Uicheon-ro in Dobong-gu.

A café with a stream view, renovated from a 50-year-old red brick house

I heard it was renovated from a 50-year-old red brick house. It's a bit of a distance from Suyu Station, but that distance buys you a quieter, more relaxed view. The inside is really quiet and warm too~

It's a great spot to drop into while walking along Uicheon Stream. The weather's been so nice lately that I found myself wanting a sunlit café.

It's such a charming place where you can watch the four seasons change through the full windows. The inside is also really spacious and comfortable. The kind of café where you'd want to quietly read a book.

Chimney bread, a dessert you don't often find in Korea

And chimney bread, no less — a dessert you don't easily find in Korea, but you can taste it here in Suyu. I'd never had chimney bread before so I was curious, and I finally get to try it.

I only just noticed the big chimney bread model sitting on top of the café haha, so funny. FYI, freshly baked hot chimney bread is definitely best eaten here on the spot.

The red brick and interior are really lovely! Not just inside, but the exterior too. The owners were also really kind.

As soon as I arrived I could see the chimney bread being golden-brown and crispy right there. It was baking away, and it looked bigger and more delicious than I expected.

What I ordered and the chimney bread flavors

I ordered a café latte, grapefruit ade, and chimney bread!

There were several flavors of chimney bread too. Injeolmi (sweet rice cake flavor), chimney gimbap, chocolate, cheese, cinnamon, and original — perfect lineup. I went with the original chimney bread.

The mood on the 1st and 2nd floors and the terrace seats

Isn't the inside just so pretty and charming? The tables and chairs look really cozy and nice. Especially with the Uicheon Stream view through the full windows, time would just fly by. Highly recommend for a date spot too.

There are also tables set up like this that can seat several people.

There was plenty of seating on the 1st floor too, but we went up to the 2nd floor. There are terrace seats as well~

The neat, charming feel of the house has been kept intact.

The coffee was tasty, the ade was tasty~ not just the chimney bread but the drinks too were really good. They also had various coffee beans prepared.

Pets allowed on the 2nd-floor terrace only

They had the same plant we keep at home so I got happy and took a photo. Uisagye is a pet-friendly café, and you can bring your pet after showing proof of vaccination. Just note that it's only allowed on the 2nd-floor terrace~

Every single corner is so pretty haha. I've been really into interiors lately and looking around carefully, and I think Uisagye's interior is just gorgeous and pretty.

The 2nd floor also has a lot of space and plenty of tables! If the 1st floor is crowded, head up to the 2nd floor and grab a seat. I went on a weekday evening after work and it wasn't too crowded, so it was great to spend a quiet time there.

The terrace space is also done up really nicely. Great for spending time with cute puppies. With the weather getting cooler lately, it seems like a good place to come play with the kids too.

Looking closely, I realized this was indeed Uisagye café. Even the space itself is such a pretty place.

How the original chimney bread tasted

The chimney bread and the tasty drinks and coffee arrived! With warm steam wafting off the hot chimney bread, it really felt like smoke rising from a chimney. Maybe that's why it's called chimney bread!

The look of it was really fresh, and it tasted really good too. The inside was chewy, the outside was crispy, and it had a nutty + savory + subtly sweet flavor that was really delicious. The kind of taste you never get tired of, keep eating,

Enjoying a cup of coffee with chimney bread together is perfect,, I thought it might just taste bland, but it's really nutty and savory. And there's a subtle buttery flavor too.

One bite in, you understand why it's so popular, haha. I'm planning to go to Prague next year and thought I'd have chimney bread then too, but I've already had the perfect chimney bread right here in Suyu.

Can you feel how crispy the outside is? You can cut it into bite-size pieces with scissors! You have to eat it while it's still hot, no question.

Grapefruit ade and café latte

One sip of the refreshing, cool grapefruit ade and I felt totally refreshed inside. It's my favorite ade, and it was great as always.

A tasty café latte that even passed the test of my sister's palate — she loves nutty coffee. You can taste the freshness of the beans~ A latte that pairs really well with the chimney bread :)

A rich grapefruit ade and a café latte side by side

Sometimes grapefruit ade can taste really bitter or astringent at some places, but Uisagye's is sweet and clean. It's really rich, perfectly matched to my taste-

Cutting up the chimney bread while steam is still rising off it, ready to eat. The skin wasn't too thick or tough, which I really liked :)

If you've never had chimney bread before, you have to come to Uisagye! You can have proper, authentic chimney bread here.

The inside is so chewy- :) The outside was crispy like it had a coating on it.

It's been a while since I had proper healing time at such a pretty café. The mood was great, and both the dessert and drinks were delicious~ I had such a relaxing time.

For anyone looking for a pretty café near Uicheon Stream, or who wants to relax with delicious chimney bread and sweet desserts and drinks, I'd recommend Changdong café Uisagye-!
