Jindo scallion kimchi, cheonyeop and the complimentary sundubu-jjigae
The basic side dishes at Omokgyo Gopchang include chive salad, scallion kimchi made with Jindo scallions, and cheonyeop (beef omasum), plus sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew) served free of charge. Every one of the basic side dishes looked neat and delicious.

You know fresh chive salad is the perfect match for gopchang, right?
The scallion kimchi made in-house with Jindo scallions is truly this restaurant's treasure. 💚
The fresh cheonyeop, dipped in sesame oil sauce, is the peak of nutty flavor.

The sauce with onion and chili really brought out the savory flavor.

The complimentary sundubu-jjigae had a spicy, punchy broth that was also a great pairing with drinks. 😋
Tasting the garlic gopchang, 28,900 won and only 20 servings a day
Omokgyo Gopchang's traditional handmade garlic gopchang is 28,900 won and limited to 20 servings a day. Finally, today's main star — the garlic gopchang — hit the grill!
1. Traditional handmade garlic gopchang (28,900 won)
Being limited to 20 servings a day makes it feel extra special, and the sight of garlic packed inside the gopchang is a work of art.
I couldn't take my eyes off the dramatic fire show the staff member put on while grilling it for us. 🔥
As the flames flared up, any gamey smell burned off, leaving only rich, savory flavor behind.

The sizzling sound of gopchang cooking is always something I love.

Once fully cooked, the outside was crispy and the inside chewy, with the garlic aroma spreading subtly with each bite.
It's packed with gop (fat), so the savory richness bursts in your mouth.
Dipped lightly in the special sauce, there's no greasiness at all — just clean flavor.

Pair it with a cold beer and all the day's fatigue melts away. 🍻
Assorted gopchang, beef heart and the grilled scallion kimchi trick
The assorted gopchang sizzling on the grill looked absolutely mouthwatering. Add a cheongyang chili to the sauce for a spicy, addictive kick.
The chewy yeomtong (beef heart) paired with chive salad had such a great texture.

Eating the well-grilled potatoes too really fills you up.
My personal tip is grilling the house-made scallion kimchi on the grill and eating it together!
Isn't the mushroom stamped with 'Omokgyo' just adorable? 🍄

Finishing with Omokgyo fried rice, 6,900 won
Of course the finale has to be fried rice — perfect visuals from the start! 🍳

Savory flavor soaked into every grain of rice, and I genuinely inhaled it. The kind of magical fried rice that has you scraping the bottom of the pan — a perfect ending.
What worked and what didn't at Omokgyo Gopchang
📌 What I liked
- ✔️ Domestic gopchang slaughtered the same day, so there was zero gamey smell and it tasted really fresh
- ✔️ The daily 20-serving garlic gopchang has a special flavor you can only get here
- ✔️ The dramatic fire show made it fun to watch, not just to eat
📌 What fell short
- ✔️ Since it's such a popular spot, the wait can get long in the evenings
- ✔️ The restaurant gets packed and can feel a bit noisy if you're looking for a quiet atmosphere
📌 Would I go back, and overall thoughts: 🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️ If you love gopchang, this is a Mokdong spot you have to try at least once. Fresh ingredients are a given, but the owner's attentive service on top of that made me feel taken care of the whole meal. It'd also be perfect for a gathering with friends or a company dinner. I think I'll be craving it again soon! ✨
