Chodaebak Naengsam Pyeongnae-Hopyeong Branch is a frozen pork belly (naengsam) specialist in the dining alley near the Pyeongnae-dong community center in Namyangju. We were on a day trip to Seoul with our kid and decided to grab dinner in Namyangju on the way back to Chuncheon 😚 I was in the mood for naengsam after a while, so we stopped by 😉 Before visiting I checked reviews and found out it's a Dodram Korean pork place, which got me excited haha. There's no dedicated lot, but street parking nearby worked fine. It's a busy dining alley, but we got lucky and found a spot close by.

What the dining room and seating are like

The restaurant is tucked into a dining alley but wasn't hard to find at all. Before even walking in, though, I noticed several delivery motorcycles parked out front. Guess it's known for delivery too 🤭

The first thing that caught my eye walking in was a wine fridge. An unexpected combination, but it actually pairs well with fatty naengsam 👍

There was plenty of table space inside. There were also outdoor tables out front — great for eating outside on a nice day 😎 The place is spacious enough for group dinners too. They also take reservations through Naver, worth noting before you visit.

As soon as we sat down they brought us cold water in a nostalgic old-school orange juice glass bottle haha.

Here's the menu at Chodaebak. Besides the main pork dishes there's also jjigae (stew), naengmyeon (cold noodles), and various sides, which I liked. The set menu comes with free steamed egg, minari, and king oyster mushroom, so if you want variety, the set is recommended!

Since there were three of us (2 adults, 1 kid), we went with SET 1, good for about 2-3 people. Alongside it we ordered bibim naengmyeon, grilled cheese, and rice. The grilled cheese came as a small taster first, but our kid loved it so much we ordered more 😋

Side dishes and the egg yolk sauce at Chodaebak Naengsam

They brought out the side dishes first, and the variety was impressive! I love this kind of spread ❤️ Extra sides are self-serve, take as much as you need.

I always make pajeori (scallion salad) myself when grilling pork belly at home, and this one looks delicious just from the color.

Chodaebak's special touch is this egg yolk sauce that comes with the meal. You mix it well and dip the meat in — I was curious how it would taste 🤔

How the frozen pork belly and pork jowl tasted

Finally the meat arrived: 2 pork belly, 1 pork jowl, plus a generous amount of king oyster mushroom, minari, and potato.

We started with the pork belly. They grilled minari and king oyster mushroom alongside it, plus bean sprout salad, bracken fern, and napa cabbage kimchi on the side of the grill.

They flipped everything quickly so nothing burned, and I was practically drooling 🤤

As always, the first bite with just a dab of salt needed no explanation — so good!!! They say it's not cheap pork belly but Dodram Korean pork, flash-frozen while fresh, and there's zero off smell 👏

With so many side dishes to pair, every bite felt like a little discovery 🤭

This egg yolk sauce was genuinely special. It had a slight spicy kick, and the nutty softness of the yolk went really well with the meat.

I piled a lettuce wrap high with everything I liked, and the grilled bracken fern was seriously delicious...!

They quickly grilled the pork jowl next. It cooks fast, which is great haha.

The pork jowl was just as good quality as the belly. Each piece was big, perfect for loading up with toppings.

Bibim naengmyeon, steamed egg and grilled cheese

Once we'd eaten a good amount of meat, the bibim naengmyeon we'd ordered arrived.

At ₩7,000 I thought it might be a small after-meal noodle dish, but the portion was pretty generous!

Meat plus naengmyeon is an unbeatable combo. The noodle sauce was a bit spicy for my taste, but as I kept eating I realized it actually paired well with the fatty meat 😊

The steamed egg that came with the set, and the grilled cheese our kid devoured. Mixing rice into the steamed egg and topping it with a piece of meat made for a bowl that disappeared fast. And snacking on cheese in between, haha.

Final verdict on Chodaebak Naengsam in Pyeongnae-dong

This naengsam meal after a long while was a real success 😉 The set menu made it even better since we got a variety of dishes and plenty of food. Delivery orders kept coming in while we ate — turns out it really is a popular delivery spot, just as I suspected. Delivery is great, but if you live nearby, I'd definitely recommend coming to eat in person 👍
