Pre-match lunch for three at a Mokdong gopchang restaurant: Omokgyo

The garlic-heavy handmade gopchang beat even the daechang (large intestine), and reservations are worth making at peak hours.

I was in Mokdong for the Seoul E-Land soccer match! There was a gopchang place near Omokgyo Station with tons of good reviews, so I went in without a second thought. Right in front of the station too — super convenient access.
Inside Omokgyo Gopchang: is it good for group dinners?
The inside of Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch! Even though we came right at lunchtime before the match, there were already quite a few customers. I only photographed the empty tables haha. Being a famous spot, delivery riders kept coming and going too. Plenty of tables, so it looks great for group gatherings or company dinners!!
Omokgyo Gopchang menu: what comes in the 93,000-won couple set
The menu at Omokgyo Gopchang! There were three of us, so we ordered the couple set (2-3 people) for 93,000 won, and since that wasn't enough, added handmade garlic gopchang (28,900 won). The couple set comes with 400g of mixed gopchang — handmade garlic gopchang, hwangso gopchang, daechang, makchang, beehive tripe, heart, beef brisket — plus a gopchang hot pot and fried rice, all included!
Love that the utensils came individually wrapped......... good hygiene.
The complimentary sundubu-jjigae and side dishes at Omokgyo Gopchang
This is the sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew) that comes as a free side dish, and wow, it was such a rice-thief that I ordered rice after just one bite..... Just a complimentary stew, but it was spicy and so delicious.... tasted just like something simmered at home..........
For basic sides, you get the special spicy gopchang sauce, sesame oil dip, shiitake wasabi, pickled onions, and corn salad. That corn salad was so good......... chef's kiss.
The scallion kimchi that came with it is best grilled until sizzling too! And of course chives, since you can't have gopchang without them, hehe.
Grilling the couple set: the fire show and when the heart is ready
The couple set arrived.... the visual was insane. Gopchang and daechang, lightly pre-cooked. Suddenly they put on a fire show, lol. So flashy...

They grilled everything carefully on the pan for us. The heart is best eaten right when the pink disappears while grilling! If you grill it too long it gets chewy, so dip it lightly in oil with some chives and eat it right away, lol.
Why the handmade garlic gopchang was the best cut of the meal
The sizzling, savory smell was driving me crazy... My usual favorite is daechang, but the handmade garlic gopchang, stuffed with garlic inside, was the tastiest of all.
Every bite was packed with garlic flavor......haha. Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside... and absolutely no gamey smell, so it was really delicious... The grilled potatoes were also super good, ugh.
Finishing the set with gopchang hot pot and fried rice
The gopchang hot pot included in the set. This is also a total rice-thief....... it was loaded with gopchang inside, so it'd probably make a great drinking snack too. I drove so I couldn't have beer with it... regret.. The broth was rich and spicy, and eating it with rice was delicious too!
The finale of any gopchang meal has to be fried rice... included in the set menu! Even when you're full, isn't fried rice basically a Korean tradition.. The moist egg wrapped around the outside looked like a scene from Magal, lol. They fried it with seaweed flakes, salmon roe, and egg together, and I scraped the pan clean...ㅎㄷㄷㄷ
With its spacious, comfortable dining room, I'd recommend Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch for group gatherings, company dinners, or date nights! I'll definitely come back again. It can get busy during peak hours, so I'd suggest booking ahead before your visit.
