Cheonan Korean restaurant solo meal, no takeout on galbi: Hyangtaek
In short
Hyangtaek Cheonan Buldang Branch is a Korean restaurant in Buldang-dong, Cheonan, where bar seats make eating alone easy. A solo lunch of mackerel gondre rice (samchi gondre bap) at 14,000 won and a galbi platter at 10,000 won, both eaten wrapped in plain dried seaweed (gim), left more than enough food for one person. The galbi platter counts as a side dish and cannot be packed to go, so at Hyangtaek order only what you can finish.

- A Korean restaurant worth knowing in Buldang-dong, Cheonan
I had errands in Buldang-dong, Cheonan and ended up stopping by Hyangtaek Cheonan Buldang Branch.

I found out after visiting that this place actually started in a tiny 7-pyeong (about 23㎡) space in Daegu's Gyodong Market! 👀

With such a solidly Korean-restaurant lineup, it seems like a comfortable spot for office workers, families, couples, or solo diners alike, haha.

Bar seats for solo diners at Hyangtaek: what I ordered
Hyangtaek Cheonan Buldang Branch has bar seats, so eating alone as a party of one felt totally fine — and I ordered without any guilt: one main, one side. Mackerel gondre rice for ₩14,000, galbi platter for ₩10,000.

Mackerel gondre rice, 14,000 won: how does it taste?
The fragrant gondre (dried gondre greens) wraps around the mild mackerel in such a nice combination!!
The plating was so quietly pretty I almost hated to disturb it,
but the moment I touched my spoon to it, I was ruthlessly mixing it all up 🥄

A spoonful of gondre and mackerel, a generous dab of seasoned sauce on top, and one bite—
exactly the shock-and-awe flavor I expected.
On days when you just want something gentle on the stomach, a Korean meal like this really is the most comforting thing! It naturally made me curious about the other menu items I haven't tried yet ,, 🥵

It's tasty on its own, but wrapping it in plain dried gim (seaweed) made the mackerel's mildness pair even better with the gondre rice..💚
The seasoning isn't strong, so even dipping it lightly in soy sauce hits the perfect balance!

Galbi platter, 10,000 won: a side dish in a main-course portion
Crisp-looking on the outside but tender inside, the galbi platter came piled high and generous on the plate, giving off main-menu energy rather than side-dish energy, haha.
The mild seasoning wasn't too salty or sweet, and the juices stayed locked in — the kind of flavor you never get tired of, even bite after bite!!!

My favorite way is wrapping a full bite in gim (。•̀ᴗ-)✧

The one catch: Hyangtaek side dishes can't be packed to go
The mackerel gondre rice had a bigger portion than expected and filled me up so much I nearly burst..
I figured I'd just pack up the leftover galbi platter to take home — but nope, since it's a side dish, takeout isn't an option... ☠️

I was too full to force myself to finish, and I'd planned to take the rest home, so it was pretty disappointing that takeout wasn't possible 🥹 Still, the mackerel gondre rice was a flavor I'd want to have again.

Is Hyangtaek worth it for a solo meal in Buldang-dong?
When you're not sure what to eat in Cheonan, Hyangtaek — with its roomy parking situation too — is a place worth bookmarking 📸 Recommended for family meals, solo dining, or dates!
Overall, Hyangtaek Cheonan felt satisfying — nothing overly strong-flavored, but still like a proper, complete meal 🍚 The side dishes especially came out neatly arranged one by one, making it fun to eat alongside the main dish, and wrapping everything in plain dried gim gave it a whole different, addictive flavor — my hand kept reaching back for more! Just keep in mind the side dishes can't be packed to go~! 😵
