I heard word-of-mouth that you could get proper old-style bulgogi in Michuhol-gu, so I went to check out Dongchuwon Bulgogi. It's the perfect spot when you're thinking of a family meal, a group dinner, or a clean, proper Korean spread, so let me introduce it quickly.

Exterior and first impression
The exterior looked really spacious and clean. I figured a bulgogi place would just be an ordinary restaurant, but this felt like a neat Korean restaurant!

Even before stepping inside, you could sense the smell of a master's restaurant~?
It's apparently been featured on TV shows like 'Tasty Guys' and 'MBN's Korean Restaurants.'

Dongchuwon Bulgogi is a place where you can taste top-tier bulgogi cooked directly by a Korean culinary master, with deep broth and extreme tenderness built on years of know-how.

Besides bulgogi, there are various products on display for sale too.

They use only carefully selected domestic Korean beef.

Banchan and the lunchtime wait
Neatly arranged salad, kimchi, and pickled vegetables that balance out the sweetness and umami of the bulgogi!
There were tons of customers during the busy lunch hour, but everything came out fast so there wasn't much of a wait!

The copper-pan bulgogi setup
A copper pan with the special broth comes out, and around the rim they add vegetables, mushrooms, glass noodles, bok choy, and more shabu-shabu style. Then a generous mound of bulgogi is placed in the center. While the bulgogi cooks, here's what we do!
How to make the signature bulgogi burger
Dongchuwon Bulgogi's own signature: split a bun, spread mustard sauce inside, add a bit of salad, a little onion and green onion, then top with a piece of the now-cooked bulgogi.

Bulgogi burger complete!
Normally you'd taste the meat plain first, but another table was eating it this way and the staff strongly recommended it, so I made my first bite into a bulgogi burger — and it was the best thing there, haha. (That's the TV in the background...)

How was the bulgogi itself?
Cook it lightly sizzling and eat it with the mushrooms, squash, glass noodles, and bok choy cooked in the broth. The seasoning isn't harsh — it's gently sweet and soaks well into the meat. It felt sweet yet clean. The vegetables cooked in the broth also came alive in flavor.
The meat is sliced very thin, so even a light cook lets the broth soak in moist and tender. Extreme tenderness that just melts away🥹🥹 — you could probably chew it with your gums. The seasoning and juices seep deep between the thin cuts of Korean beef, so wrapped up with green onion shreds it's just excellent. (Gulp.)

Dessert naengmyeon: both bibim and mul
We didn't order rice — instead we got dessert bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) and dessert mul naengmyeon (cold noodle soup).

It was nice that there's a separate dessert menu, so you don't even need to order rice👍
Wrap a bite of the re-cooking meat with a chopstick-load of noodles and eat it all in one go.

The bibim naengmyeon is legit tasty! A sweet, juicy piece of bulgogi with spicy-tangy bibim naengmyeon — an unbeatable combo, right?!

Self-bar banchan, the spacious hall, and rooms
If you ran low on banchan, you could just grab more from the self-bar without feeling awkward — that boosted the overall satisfaction a lot.

Only after finishing eating did I really notice the inside of the place... haha. There were tons of people, but the place was spacious enough to feel comfortable.

There are separate rooms too, so it looked well suited for family meals, group dinners, or special occasions and gatherings.
Finishing with old-school cone ice cream
Last but not least — drumroll — ice cream!🍦 The kind of cone ice cream you'd only see back in the day, haha. So nostalgic. The kind of ice cream you'd only get if you tagged along with mom and dad.

There was ice cream at the self-bar, so I scooped away like crazy. (Available after paying!) Vanilla / chocolate / strawberry.

I really felt once again that a culinary master is just different. (I'm the type who blindly trusts anything a 'master' makes.) If you're in Michuhol-gu, Incheon looking for a heartfelt Korean meal or a hearty spread of bulgogi, I strongly recommend Dongchuwon Bulgogi! Enjoy a delicious meal with your family.
