Uijeongbu Rodeo Street silver-ring workshop: location and parking

It is on the fifth floor of the McDonald's building on Uijeongbu Station Rodeo Street.

There is no separate parking support, so I recommend using the Uijeongbu 1-dong Underground Public Parking Lot or the Uijeongbu 1-dong Multi-story Public Parking Lot. It can be busy since this is such a crowded area, so it is best to allow plenty of time.

The moment I opened the workshop door, the bright, beautiful white-toned interior caught my eye. Cubic zirconia silver rings in all sorts of designs were displayed in the showcase right at the entrance, and I was already getting excited while looking around and wondering which ring we would make.

When we arrived, the instructor welcomed us so kindly and warmly. Each room was divided into a private space, which made it especially charming because we could enjoy some cozy time just for the two of us.

They even gave us cold water, haha.

Once you enter the room, put on the cute apron, and wait, the instructor comes in, carefully fills out a consultation form with you, and brings over the ring samples.

(The apron was so pretty that I said I was going to buy the exact same one... shaking my head.)

Choosing our couple-ring samples

I was thrilled to see so many samples! Which one of all these rings would become ours?

They give you the ring samples along with a tablet. The tablet lets you check prices in advance, so you can see the price right away while trying on samples, which made choosing a ring easy. Beyond the design, you can choose the surface finish too, such as glossy or matte, so even the same design can feel quite different depending on the finish.

We considered going for something fancy, but chose a simple design with a substantial, gender-neutral feel that would suit any everyday outfit. Arco — women's ₩90,000, men's ₩95,000.

The women's ring had two vertically set cubic zirconia stones in the center, while the men's had something like clear glass. The women's was subtly glamorous, and the men's looked simple yet substantial.

Shaping our silver rings ourselves

Now it was time to make them ourselves. Once you decide on the size, you finally begin shaping the rings. Using tools you do not often see in everyday life—flat files, half-round files, and sanding blocks—we gradually smoothed the ring surfaces.

Best of all, the instructor watched over the process beside us and immediately pointed out anything wrong, so even people without handy skills do not need to worry too much.

Still, we decided each person would make their own ring because I was worried my boyfriend might ruin mine. Every person for themselves, that is what this was.

First, we gently filed the outside of the ring to smooth and tidy the surface.

We filed lightly until the bumpy, weld-like areas disappeared. Be careful not to file too much, as the ring will lose weight and become thinner! Men, please do this without putting too much strength into it.

At first the rings were a little rough and chunky, but it was fascinating to see them visibly become smoother as we kept sanding, and I found myself quietly concentrating.

Once the surface was smooth enough, we used a polishing machine for the final step to give the rings their shine. As the machine spun, it quickly refined the surface, and the rings that had looked chunky only moments before gradually became sparkly. Especially when I saw them glittering under the lights, I thought, “Ah, the rings we really made are coming together!” 💍

Around the time we finished making the rings, the instructor came in and took a Polaroid of us from behind. I felt a little embarrassed, but looking at the photo later made it even more memorable and put me in a good mood, haha. I am glad we took it!

It takes about an hour for the professional instructor to do the final work and complete our rings, so we planned to have dinner and continue our date on Uijeongbu Rodeo Street before coming back.

When you get the text and come back—ta-da! Our rings are finished. Did we really make these? Hahaha.

The case for the rings was much more solid and weighty than I expected. Rather than a light, simple case, it felt sturdy and luxurious from the moment I held it. The case itself was clean and pretty, so seeing the completed rings inside made me feel as though I had received an especially lovely piece of jewelry as a gift. 🤍

Because we had chosen the design, sized them, and done everything ourselves from filing to sanding and polishing, receiving the finished rings in their case made me feel far more attached to them than when we first arrived.

And instead of simply carrying the case out, they also prepare a little shopping bag for you to take it home in—and that was really pretty too.

Every bit of the packaging felt considered, so rather than simply feeling like we had completed a ring-making experience, it felt as if we had been carefully given a beautifully wrapped gift.

I think the biggest appeal of a ring workshop is that you are left with more than the finished piece—you also keep the memory that “we made rings together that day.” Having the Polaroid as part of the finish made it an even happier date.
