Figure Museum Jeju was on the itinerary for the day rain was forecast during our Jeju trip. Maybe because my child is an elementary-school-aged boy, he already likes figures quite a bit. When I asked, “Shall we go to a figure museum?” during our Jeju plans, he showed noticeably more interest than he did in the other places.

So we decided to visit while traveling in Jeju, choosing something around Seogwipo that suited my child’s tastes. There was more than I expected to look at, but also plenty to do—things we could actually wear and photograph—so we had a fun 1.5 hours there.

We visited at around 11 a.m. on a Monday, and there were more visitors than I expected for a weekday morning.

A mask gift before we even went in

As soon as we arrived at the museum, my child was already buzzing with excitement. There was also The Little Prince near the entrance, which I was happy to see too. At the counter, we received admission wristbands, and the owner put them on our wrists personally.

At the time of our visit, there was also an event giving out free masks for writing a review. We joined in and received one mask per person. Getting gifts before we had even begun looking around had already put my child in the best mood. After hearing a few simple precautions, we started exploring in earnest.

More than exhibits: spaces for trying on props

Once inside, so many different figures caught my eye. But what I liked most was that it was not simply a place where you look at the displayed figures and leave it at that.

You do need to view the exhibits carefully, but throughout the museum there were separate props and hands-on spaces set up for visitors to wear or hold while taking photos.

Iron Man suit photo zone

One spot where you will probably end up taking a photo at Figure Museum Jeju is the Iron Man suit photo zone. Along with Iron Man, there were masks, costumes, accessories, and more related to Marvel heroes, so we could try them on and take pictures.

Of course, we also could not skip standing in front of a favorite figure, copying the character’s pose exactly, and taking a photo. For my child, it seemed far more fun than a museum where you simply look around.

Star Wars props and knight costume play

The atmosphere changes again when you go up to the second floor. Of the many areas, my child spent the longest in the Star Wars area and the space where you can try on knight costumes. It was full of things to play with.

He posed holding lightsaber-like props and various weapons, tried on a knight mask, and at one point took photos as if he were a king. Maybe because he is an elementary-school-aged boy, he was quick to get excited about these activities.

“Want to hold this one too? This time, put this on and take my picture.”

It was not just one photo and done; he kept looking for different props, so quite a bit of time passed here.

Looking for characters together

It was not only heroes, either. There were all kinds of figures, from characters familiar to children such as Son Goku and One Piece to Pooh, and it was fun finding recognizable characters one by one.

Looking around together, we naturally ended up talking a lot: “Do you know this one?” and “What is this character called?” For children, there is the fun of meeting characters they love; for parents, there is the pleasure of seeing characters they used to love again.

An annex where parents can get nostalgic too

There was also a separate annex. It was not huge, but personally, it felt like a small and precious space.

There was Atom, which I used to love, and Robot Taekwon V too, so I was suddenly reminded of my childhood. There was also a space decorated for taking photos with Pokémon characters, so we took another photo together. If my child was thrilled in the main space, the annex felt like the place where Mom and Dad could get nostalgic instead.

How long did the visit take?

We chose it thinking we would take a quick look around near WE Hotel, but our family stayed for about 1.5 hours. If you only look at the figures quickly, it may take less time, but if you try on masks like we did, copy poses, and take photos in each hands-on space, your visit will naturally become longer.

In particular, I think elementary-school-aged children who like Marvel, Star Wars, animation characters, or figures will enjoy it even more. It is an indoor space you can enjoy regardless of the weather, with lots of photo zones where children can do things themselves, so Figure Museum Jeju was worth stopping by if you are traveling in Jeju with a child and looking for something suited to their tastes around Seogwipo or Jungmun.
