Two-person black pork lunch set with seaweed rice, Jeju: Nopo Dwaeji

In short

Nopo Dwaeji Aewol is a black pork specialty restaurant on Gwakji9-gil in Aewol, Jeju. Visiting around 2pm with a child, the writer ordered the two-person lunch set (₩55,000) with pork belly, Jeju yellow crab doenjang stew, and two bowls of seaweed rice, with staff grilling the pre-seared meat throughout. No ocean view, but a great value spot for lunch in Aewol.

Among the black pork specialty restaurants in Aewol, Jeju, Nopo Dwaeji Aewol isn't about the ocean view — it's a true black pork spot that wins purely on the taste of the meat. Here's my review after trying their value-packed lunch set!

Even going as a blogger, the meat was so good I genuinely want to recommend Nopo Dwaeji as an Aewol, Jeju restaurant.

There's plenty of parking at the building, the interior is clean, and the value lunch set is well put together — I want to introduce this place to Jeju travelers looking for delicious black pork at lunch without breaking the bank.

After parking at the building, I followed the signs up the stairs and saw the big Nopo Dwaeji sign, then went inside.

Visiting at 2pm — good for a family with a child

Due to scheduling on our first day in Jeju, we visited close to 2pm, past the usual lunch rush. The interior was really clean, and even though it's not an ocean-view spot, Nopo Dwaeji Aewol was actually prettier inside than the ocean-view restaurants, and had an indoor restroom — which made it even better for me, traveling with a family and a child.

(As someone whose posts are more than half about meat, I can vouch that this meat is truly delicious, haha)

The two-person lunch set: what's included and the price

As a proper black pork specialty restaurant, they sell 600g of black pork geun-gogi (thick-cut meat) for ₩72,000, and also offer Jeju gakmaesal (skirt meat) and hangjeongsal (pork jowl). There's a lunch special available only between 11am and 2pm — if you want quality meat at a good price for lunch, I'd definitely recommend ordering the lunch set.

My family also went with the two-person set (₩55,000), choosing pork belly for the meat and Jeju yellow crab doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) for the soup — plus two bowls of seaweed rice included. The menu composition and price are really reasonable.

The banchan (side dishes) come out generously as shown in the photos — the dongchimi (watery radish kimchi) broth was great, and the salt came as breadcrumb salt, which my kid loved dipping the meat into, saying it tasted even better. Definitely a black pork spot in Aewol worth remembering.

The self-serve bar was well organized, with perilla leaves and lettuce set out separately — if you like wrapping your meat in vegetables, just help yourself at the bar.

I'm serious about my lettuce, perilla leaves, and garlic, so I loaded up at the self-serve bar, haha!

Jeju yellow crab doenjang stew and seaweed rice

Before the black pork belly arrived, the Jeju yellow crab doenjang stew included in the set came out first — rich doenjang (soybean paste) flavor with plenty of chili, spicy and deep. It was the best doenjang stew I've had in Jeju. Usually the crab in these stews has barely any meat, but Nopo Dwaeji Aewol's yellow crab doenjang stew was packed with crab meat, which made me think the ingredient quality here is genuinely excellent.

The seaweed rice is so much better than plain white rice, and healthy too :)

Black pork pork belly, grilled by staff

The meat came out lightly pre-seared, and staff grilled it the rest of the way for us. The black pork at Nopo Dwaeji Aewol was so good that even I — someone who couldn't eat much meat this trip due to morning sickness — ate a lot of this black pork. Just some tmi for you, haha.

The staff cut the meat into bite-sized pieces and grilled it to just the right doneness — savory, packed with juice, and so tender... ♥ Setting everything else aside, Nopo Dwaeji really does seem to be the only true black pork spot in Jeju that wins purely on the taste of the meat.

Once fully grilled, the pork belly has an amazing golden-brown, glossy look — it's an Aewol, Jeju restaurant I'd love for anyone reading this to try at least once if you're visiting Aewol; it feels almost a waste to keep it to myself.

Looking for good-value black pork in Aewol?

Since it's black pork, the meat isn't seasoned at all, but even one bite of the pork belly fills your mouth — and paired with the various side dishes, wrap greens, and sauces, it was even more special and delicious. If you're looking for a good-value restaurant in Aewol, Jeju that really does black pork right, I'd recommend giving Nopo Dwaeji Aewol a try. This is already our second Jeju trip this year, and out of all the black pork restaurants we've eaten at on our trips, Nopo Dwaeji Aewol is the one that stuck with me the most.
