Braised pork rice bowl and fried chicken drumsticks in Jeju: Dixie's
In short
Dixie's is a restaurant near Dongmun Market and Gwandeokjeong in Jeju City, Jeju, serving rice bowls alongside American-style fried chicken. The braised pork rice, tossed with a squeeze of lime, and a fried chicken with a hefty bone-in drumstick paired with three sauces made for a memorable evening. Between the motorcycle parked out front and the warm table lighting, the atmosphere stuck with me as much as the food.

Ever wonder if there's a place in Jeju that suddenly makes you feel like you've landed in America?? While wandering around Dongmun Market, I stumbled onto a spot with an atmosphere that felt off in the best way. That's Dixie's, where you can enjoy rice bowls and fried chicken together!

Near Dongmun Market, an exterior worth photographing
Honestly I went there just to eat, but the moment I saw the exterior I started taking photos before anything else. It felt like a small local diner somewhere in America had been dropped right there, totally different from the usual restaurants you see around Jeju! If you're looking for a Gwandeokjeong restaurant in Jeju and want something a little different, this one's worth keeping in mind. I went that day curious about the Jeju rice bowl menu, and ended up soaking in the whole atmosphere too.

Honestly, the vibe hits before you even walk in. There's a motorcycle parked right out front, and it fits the whole scene perfectly. Menu photos are pasted one by one across the wall, so even just passing by, your eyes naturally get drawn in.

It has that feel like something out of an American movie, where the characters casually walk in for chicken and rice?? Being near Dongmun Market made it easy to swing by after wandering the market, and it was also a good spot to stop after looking around Gwandeokjeong.

What's the lighting and interior like inside?
So I figured this place would suit anyone looking for a different kind of Gwandeokjeong restaurant in Jeju, beyond the usual black pork or seafood spots! Once you step inside, the mood from outside carries right through — the lighting and wall interior both echo an American local diner in all sorts of small details.

I especially loved the lighting over the tables. It softly lights up the tabletop, so just sitting there already creates atmosphere, and once the food arrives, it looks even more appetizing under that glow!

Overall the restaurant wasn't overly bright, and the way the lighting and interior worked together gave the space a clear personality. Running into a place with this kind of atmosphere during a Jeju trip felt refreshingly different. I sat down and looked at the menu, and right from there I found myself thinking pretty hard.

What we ordered: braised pork rice and fried chicken
With rice bowls, chicken, burgers, and more, there were so many things I wanted to try! Hold on — looking at the menu photos, picking just one is surprisingly hard?? After a lot of back and forth, we ended up ordering the fried chicken and the braised pork rice. The one I was most curious about was the braised pork rice. Lately I've been into dishes where rice and several ingredients come together in one bowl, so I'd been on the hunt for a good Jeju rice bowl spot.

We didn't wait long after ordering before the food arrived, and the moment it hit the table, the whole mood lifted. With the table lighting falling right onto the dishes, even the photos somehow came out looking more atmospheric than usual!

You just can't skip photographing something like this before digging in. We spent a while taking pictures before actually starting to eat.
Braised pork rice, the joy of mixing in lime
First up was the braised pork rice I'd been looking forward to. It's fried rice piled generously with vegetables, pulled pork, corn, and more, and it looked pretty appetizing from the first glance!

This combination is genuinely good?? Unlike plain fried rice, having several ingredients in one bite kept the texture changing in a fun way. Before eating, you squeeze a bit of lime over it and mix it all together thoroughly, and that lime plays a pretty important role. Its bright, fresh scent cut through the savory fried rice, keeping the overall flavor from feeling heavy.

The pulled pork mixed into the rice soft and mild, and the corn added little pops of sweetness here and there as I chewed. With the light crunch of the vegetables on top of that, each bite of fried rice never felt heavy or greasy, which I appreciated. Notably, the seasoning wasn't so strong that it drowned out the individual ingredients.

The savoriness of the rice, the mildness of the pulled pork, and the freshness of the vegetables came through one after another, with a touch of lime tying it all together at the end! So even first-timers trying a Jeju rice bowl for the first time could enjoy it without feeling overwhelmed. It fills you up on carbs while also getting in vegetables and pulled pork, so it felt like a genuinely satisfying single bowl.
Personally, rice dishes with overly strong seasoning tend to wear on me quickly, but the braised pork rice wasn't overdone, so I ate through the whole bowl comfortably. I also liked that even mixing everything together, each ingredient's flavor and texture still came through to some degree!
Fried chicken with drumsticks unlike any other
And the dish that really grabbed my eyes visually was the fried chicken.

My first reaction was 'wait, why is this drumstick so huge?' — the size was that impressive! It leaned way more American-style fried chicken than I'd expected. Think KFC-style, big and rustically fried, and you'll get roughly the idea.

The outside kept that distinctly crispy batter texture while the chicken inside stayed juicy, and the contrast was great. Best of all, the seasoning wasn't overpowering, so it was fine plain and also worked well with sauce. The drumstick had bone, but the rest was boneless, which made it easy to eat too.

Three sauces and the rice bowl combo
Tearing into the big drumstick by hand was fun, and the boneless pieces were easy to pop in one bite at a time, so it felt like enjoying two different experiences at once! And it comes with a whopping three sauces. Instead of dipping in just one sauce the whole time, switching between them made the same chicken feel a little different in the mouth each time, so it never got tiring. A bite of braised pork rice followed by a bite of fried chicken worked really well together too. The light, fresh rice paired with the crispy chicken filled in for whatever texture the other lacked. The crunch the rice bowl alone might be missing, the chicken supplied, and when the chicken started feeling a bit heavy, the braised pork rice and vegetables reset the palate.

Worth adding to a Dongmun Market evening
Ordering both together as a pair turned out to be a pretty good call! So if you're looking for a different kind of Gwandeokjeong restaurant in Jeju where you can enjoy rice and chicken together, Dixie's will stick in your memory. When you're eating mostly Jeju food for a few days, slipping in a meal like this adds to the fun of the trip. If you're looking for a different kind of evening near Dongmun Market, the food at Dixie's was good, but honestly, the atmosphere of the space is what stayed with me most.

From the motorcycle out front, to the wall covered in menu photos, to the lighting and interior once you step inside — it all flowed naturally into one consistent mood. Visiting in the evening made the lighting feel even more atmospheric, and the scene of food set on the table looked genuinely great!

If you're browsing Dongmun Market and looking for somewhere to eat dinner, it's worth adding to your route. Above all, I got to try a Jeju rice bowl a bit different from the usual, along with hefty American-style fried chicken, which made for a pretty fun meal. If you're someone who, like me, cares about the atmosphere of a space as much as the food when traveling, you'll probably like this even more. If you're after a Gwandeokjeong restaurant in Jeju with a different kind of atmosphere, Dixie's near Dongmun Market is worth trying for an evening of braised pork rice and fried chicken.
