Miso ramen with extra egg at a Sokcho ramen restaurant: Ichiba Ramen
In short
Ichiba Ramen is a traditional Japanese-style ramen restaurant on Jungang-ro in Sokcho, directly across from Yeongnang Elementary School. A couple came for lunch and ordered karai ramen at 9,500 won, miso ramen at 10,000 won and butadon at 4,500 won, adding two eggs, and rated the karai ramen about as spicy as mild Jin Ramen. The rich tonkotsu broth went so well with the butadon that two bowls of ramen plus one side is the order to make when two people visit Ichiba Ramen.

This is a review of Ichiba Ramen's Sokcho location — ramen made by a Korean chef recognized by a Japanese ramen master. Let's get into it!

Ichiba Ramen menu prices and how to order at the kiosk
You order at Ichiba Ramen through a kiosk with prepayment. The signature menu includes tonkotsu ramen, miso ramen, special tonkotsu ramen, hiyashi chuka (cold ramen), mania tonkotsu ramen, and red snow crab roe cream ramen, along with various side dishes.

Overall the prices were reasonable, and you could order extra egg, chashu, or noodles separately.

Each table had a water bottle, wooden chopsticks, paper cups, danmuji (pickled radish), tongs, hair ties, pepper, and shichimi!
What the couple ordered for lunch and what it cost
At Ichiba Ramen we ordered miso ramen, karai ramen, butadon, extra egg, and cider.

- Miso ramen ₩10,000
- Karai ramen (spicy) ₩9,500
- Butadon ₩4,500
- Extra 2 eggs ₩2,000
- Cider ₩2,000

When your order is ready, you pick it up yourself at the counter, and return your dishes when done. I prefer spicy ramen so I ordered the karai ramen, and my husband ordered the miso ramen.
Ramen made with broth simmered for 30 hours from fresh domestic pork bones, minimizing seasonings and processed ingredients to deliver the true flavor of ramen
How spicy is the karai ramen at Ichiba Ramen?
Ichiba Ramen's karai ramen is a tonkotsu broth with a secret spice blend added. The spice level is... about like mild Jin Ramen? (Honestly, I personally wished it were a bit spicier, haha.)

The broth was creamy and rich with a savory flavor, and the crunchy texture of the wood ear mushrooms paired perfectly with the softness of the soft-boiled egg. The chashu was seasoned just right too, and it went even better eaten together with the noodles!
How were the miso ramen and butadon?

The miso ramen was full of the savory flavor of vegetables and Japanese miso paste sautéed together. (It tasted exactly like what I had in Japan!) Thanks to the rich broth, my husband enjoyed it until the very last bite, and dipping the noodles into the broth was especially delicious, haha.
The butadon had glossy, shiny chashu and just the right amount of rice, making it a good pairing alongside the ramen. The sweet-savory special sauce soaked evenly into the rice, and topping it with chashu and ginger together made for a great combination!

Big bites, yum yum haha. I'd definitely recommend ordering one bowl of ramen each plus one side dish if you're going as a couple!
With rich broth simmered long from pork bones and chewy noodles coming together, why not try a bowl of Japanese ramen at Ichiba Ramen for lunch during your Sokcho trip?
