Anyang grilled fish for two: tofu ssamjang lettuce wraps, Hwaddeugeuro

In short

Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch is a grilled fish Korean restaurant on the first floor of the Kids Mom Center Blue Building in Bisan-dong, Anyang, Gyeonggi. Visiting as a couple, we ordered one menu each — grilled mackerel and fire-grilled spicy pork — and refilled lettuce wraps, tofu ssamjang and japchae as often as we liked at the self-bar. The mackerel from the 500-degree oven was crisp outside and moist inside, and one portion of the pork was generous enough for two to share.

Today I went to check out a grilled mackerel spot near the sports complex in Anyang's Bisan-dong. Let me introduce it right away!!

Inside the restaurant and the 22-person window room

The interior is really spacious and clean. It's arranged with wide tables to seat a lot of people, and the inner area is a window room that can apparently be fully reserved for 22 or more people.

I actually walked all the way to the inner room, and the floor-to-ceiling windows let the sunlight pour in — it was so nice. Eating in a pretty place doubles the taste of the food haha

The menu and our order for two: grilled mackerel and spicy pork

This is the menu board at Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch. At most branches of Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo the side dishes are unlimited refills, so you need to order one menu item per person! My husband and I ordered grilled mackerel and pork stir-fry.

Every set lets you choose between white rice and brown rice, and we chose white rice! If you're worried about not having enough rice, no need — there's a rice cooker at the self-bar where you can scoop more.

Self-bar sides: lettuce wraps with tofu ssamjang and unlimited japchae

It's a very tidy, well-organized side dish corner. There's also a bibimbap section where you can make your own bibimbap with bean sprouts, seasoned radish, bracken, and sesame oil, but since we were having the fire-grilled pork, we scooped up lettuce leaves and tofu ssamjang (fermented soybean-tofu dipping sauce) instead haha!

The ssamjang isn't your regular ssamjang either — it's made with tofu mixed in for extra nutrition. Even the japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) is unlimited refill..!!!! Amazing.

After scooping up side dishes, out came our pork and mackerel!!! The color looked amazing, and I was already drooling,,

How does the 500-degree oven-grilled mackerel taste?

Grilled in a 500-degree oven, this is the brand's signature premium mackerel — crispy outside, moist inside. It's also a good size, and dipped in wasabi soy sauce it's chewy, the kind of side dish kids can't do without haha. So, so moist and delicious!!

Spicy fire-grilled pork

Fire-grilled spicy pork: portion size and how spicy it is

Spicy fire-grilled pork, cooked directly over the 500-degree oven!! It's a perfect pairing with the grilled fish. This is technically a single serving, but the portion was pretty generous, so my husband and I shared it.

Topped with tofu ssamjang and wrapped in lettuce, it's refreshing with a real smoky char — so delicious! I'm sensitive to spice so it was a little too much for me, but my husband said it was a perfectly delicious level of spicy!

Doenjang soup included with the set

This is the doenjang soup (soybean paste soup) that comes with the set. It came alongside the meal, so I'd eat rice and side dishes, then take a spoonful of soup haha. It was so refreshing I let out an involuntary "kya~~~" It's well seasoned and really hits the spot haha.

Finishing the meal with tteokbokki from the self-bar

At the end, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) rounds things off with a sweet finish haha. There are so many delicious items and they're all Korean-style dishes, so my stomach didn't feel heavy — it actually felt like a healthier meal!

Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo is honestly a place I can't do without,, If you're looking for good food near the Anyang sports complex, or planning a family gathering in Bisan-dong, I highly recommend Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch!!
