The interior isn't huge, but it felt cozy, and the warm lighting gave it a comfortable atmosphere. It's better for small groups than big parties, and it was a really nice spot for a date too.

Especially this atmospheric bar table! Great for chatting quietly with a partner, and just as good for drinking alone.

Fish cake set for two with its own warmer (18,000 won)

What's great about Cheolgil Busanjip Beomgye Branch is that it's a Beomgye oden bar with an individual warmer at every table, so you can eat the fish cakes cleanly and hygienically.

When you order the fish cakes, they bring the fish cake broth right to the warmer!

The fish cake set for two comes with rice cake skewer, 2 curly fish cakes, tofu-mochi pouch, black konjac, and fish cake balls, and you can pick 2 more fish cakes of your choice on top.

The fish cakes come already cooked, so you just warm them up by dipping them into the broth.

Fish cakes being warmed in the broth on the warmer

Since it's not simmered over a burner but warmed in a warmer, it wasn't too hot, just nicely warm. The broth stayed warm the whole time, and since you add pieces one by one at your own pace, there was room to enjoy it slowly while drinking!

They said the fish cakes are handmade, and the quality showed — with so many varieties, it never got boring.

You scoop up the broth with a wooden ladle, which felt so on-brand Japanese-style... 💛 The broth is a secret recipe simmered for 5 hours, and it wasn't too strongly seasoned or sharp, so it was easy to keep sipping while drinking.

Injeolmi mochi, a chewy rice cake dessert (8,000 won)

If you like sweet and nutty flavors, you have to order the injeolmi mochi!

Grilled garaetteok and kirimochi topped with injeolmi powder and sugar

Crisply grilled garaetteok (long rice cake) and kirimochi rice cake were covered in sugar and injeolmi (roasted soybean) powder, and the portion was really generous for a side dish.

You dip it in a sweet Japanese-style soy sauce here — not too salty, with a gentle sweetness that didn't overpower the nutty, sweet flavor of the injeolmi mochi, but actually enhanced the sweetness even more.

When the rice cake is warm it's soft and chewy, while the outside is crisply grilled — the contrasting texture made it even more delicious, and the nuttiness of the injeolmi powder with the sweetness of the sugar made it a great drinking snack.

Herring roe butter potato (13,000 won)

I just ordered it out of curiosity about the combination, and it turned out to be genuinely one of the best drinking snacks ever ‼️

Crispy fried whole potato topped with cheese
Mayonnaise and herring roe sauce served with the potato

A crispy fried whole potato came topped with plenty of cheese, served with mayonnaise and herring roe sauce.

The key was this sauce — mixing the herring roe into the mayonnaise for dipping. The smooth, nutty taste of the mayonnaise, combined with the popping texture and salty umami of the herring roe, paired so well with the mellow potato.

Even though it's herring roe, there was no fishy taste at all — just full salty, umami flavor.

Cross-section of the potato, crispy outside and fluffy inside

Especially the potato itself was fried so crispy — crunchy outside and fluffy inside, and the texture matched perfectly. If you like potatoes, definitely order this first 🥔
