A 74-year-old cauldron lid and Korean-raised pork
I took a photo of the 74-year-old cauldron lid — it's fascinating. Also, something I really liked: everything on the menu is sourced domestically. Kimchi in particular often uses Chinese red pepper flakes, so I loved that theirs was domestic. As a nutritionist, that's a huge plus for me👩🏻🍳
There's a self-serve bar so you can grab more side dishes if you run out. The lettuce wraps were fresh, and I was happy to see mountain garlic leaves too🫶🏻
The men's restroom is outside the building, but the women's restroom is inside! Both were very clean, which I appreciated.
What we ordered: cauldron-lid osamgyeopsal and thick pork neck
Took a photo of the cauldron lid at our table😇 Meat cooked on a cauldron lid really does taste different. If you're craving cauldron-lid pork belly in Dongtan, this is the place!👀

This is the basic side dish spread. They make their own napa cabbage kimchi and green onion kimchi, plus plenty of other sides. Bean sprouts, bracken fern, tofu, and oyster mushrooms all get grilled for you. Not shown in the photo, but there was also mountain garlic leaf and lettuce wraps! If you run out, the self-serve bar has you covered.

At this Bansong-dong, Dongtan favorite, the staff grill everything for you, meat and vegetables alike, which made things easy. They heat the pan well and grill the meat perfectly. We ordered ohsamgyeopsal and pork neck — thick cuts with just the right amount of fat.

You could really taste how good it was because the meat was so thick. Pork neck especially can feel dry if it's not thick enough, but I loved how thick this cut was🫧

They grill it to a nice golden brown. They put myeoljeot in the center of the pan, and eating it together was so delicious🥹

It was also delicious wrapped in mountain garlic leaf or perilla leaf, and being so thick made every bite great. No gamey smell at all, and the fatty parts had a nice chewy texture. If you're looking for a good restaurant near Gaenari Park or in Bansong-dong, Dongtan, I recommend this place.

What tasted especially amazing cooked on the cauldron lid was the pork neck. Pork neck can feel dry since it's leaner, but here it was tender and delicious. If you're looking for cauldron-lid pork belly in Dongtan, definitely check this place out!
Doenjang jjigae, and the cheese fried rice we came back for three days later
The meat looked so good that we also ordered doenjang jjigae and a bowl of rice. The stew was packed with ingredients, and it went so well with the rice and pork belly.

This is the fried rice I had on my repeat visit three days later. I added cheese, and it was delicious. Fried rice cooked on a cauldron lid is an insane combination...✨ The perfect way to end the meal!
