Dongtan BBQ dinner for two: ogyeopsal and chilled mukbap, Gogigaondang

In short

Gogigaondang Dongtan Branch is a cauldron-lid ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly) restaurant near Gaenari Park in Bansong-dong, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. A married couple visited early on a Saturday evening and ordered antibiotic-free grade-1 fresh ogyeopsal, antibiotic-free gabrisal (pork jowl cut) and radish-salad fried rice with cheese topping, and a staff member grilled the meat in a cast-iron cauldron lid along with scallion kimchi, tofu and bean sprouts. The best part at Gogigaondang was pairing the sizzling cauldron-lid pork with the chilled mukbap (acorn jelly noodle soup) served alongside.

My husband and I went out for some good meat a while back! This time we tried a place where you can grill pork belly, gabrisal, and jowl meat on a cauldron lid, haha. It's Gogigaondang Dongtan Branch, located near Gaenari Park in Dongtan.

This is a BBQ spot where they grill grade-1 female pig raw pork belly in a cauldron. Not just meat but handmade side dishes too, so I went in with expectations. My husband and I visited early evening on a Saturday, and since the staff grilled the meat for us and served a variety of side dishes, we left really satisfied!

If you're looking for a cauldron-lid pork belly restaurant in Dongtan, Gogigaondang is worth keeping an eye on, haha.

Inside Gogigaondang Dongtan Branch and its homemade side dishes

Walking inside, the overall atmosphere was clean and comfortable. Some BBQ places have tables crammed together, but Gogigaondang was set up so dining didn't feel cramped at all, which I liked. My husband and I visited as a couple, but I thought it'd also work well for family outings, gatherings with friends, or company dinners, haha. My husband actually mentioned he's come here a few times for work dinners and enjoyed it!

I took a few photos of the interior too! Since it's a space for grilling meat, it felt warm and cozy, and it was nice to sit and eat at a relaxed pace. Above all, the staff were friendly, so even on our first visit we could dine comfortably, haha.

Table pre-set for a reserved arrival time at Gogigaondang

Since we had made a reservation, the table was already set up in time for our arrival, haha! Scallion kimchi, kimchi, bean sprouts, bracken fern, tofu, onion, garlic, mushrooms — so many things were prepared that I sat down already excited about grilling them all together, hahaha.

And here, the side dishes aren't just served as-is — they're made from scratch. Gogigaondang is apparently run by a mother with 40 years of experience in Korean cooking and her chef son with 15 years of experience! Most of the ingredients are also directly grown at Ondang Farm, so I could really feel the care put into the food. Everything's sourced domestically too, so it'd be great to come here with family.

Gogigaondang menu and what a couple ordered

Gogigaondang mainly sells grilled pork dishes but had a variety of meal options! From their signature raw pork belly to teugmoksal, gabrisal, and jowl meat, it was all there.

The detailed menu is also on the kiosk, so check that out! They seem to sell Korean pork duruchigi or chadol doenjang stew as lunch specials, haha.

Since it was just my husband and me, we ordered antibiotic-free grade-1 raw pork belly + antibiotic-free gabrisal + radish fried rice with cheese topping + drinks! There were so many types of meat that we debated what to get before choosing pork belly and gabrisal, haha. And you have to finish with fried rice after the meat, right? So we added cheese topping to the radish fried rice too!

Staff grill the pork right in the cauldron lid

Now let's get into grilling the meat! Gogigaondang doesn't use a regular grill plate — it's cooked on a cauldron lid, which was a nice touch. Even better, the staff grilled the meat for us themselves, hehe.

Isn't the meat thick and beautifully colored, ㅠ Along with the meat, they grilled scallion kimchi, kimchi, bean sprouts, bracken fern, tofu, onion, garlic, and mushrooms all together on the cauldron. Cooking with the tasty oil rendered from the meat made the side dishes taste even better, haha. The sweet onions and bean sprouts especially went great with the meat, and the tofu grilled in the meat oil was a real treat!

Group shot of the golden-brown meat and side dishes

What a beautiful group shot... it really looks delicious, haha. You can see the meat turning golden brown, right? Since the staff grilled the meat for us, we could just relax and chat while waiting, haha. Their grilling skills were also really good, so we could eat perfectly cooked meat right away!

How the fresh ogyeopsal and gabrisal tasted

The gabrisal had a slightly chewy texture! The more you chew, the more savory it gets, and it's not tough at all — more like springy?! Haha. The raw pork belly is Gogigaondang's signature dish, and it's grade-1 antibiotic-free! The juices really burst out while the outside stays chewy... I think I'm finally getting into the appeal of pork belly these days, haha.

The meat itself is tasty enough to eat with just a dab of salt, but it was also great with pickles or wild garlic leaf! Especially wrapping a piece of meat with wild garlic leaf and garlic together was really delicious, haha.

And you can't skip the grilled bracken fern when eating pork, plus the sweet and slightly spicy scallion kimchi with that popping texture that goes so well with the meat... ♡

The grilled kimchi in particular was really tasty, with the meat oil soaking in slightly and adding depth of flavor! And eating it with the grilled tofu I mentioned earlier — tofu kimchi doesn't get better than this, hahaha.

They also had a self-serve bar here! If you need more of any side dish while eating, you could comfortably grab it yourself without feeling awkward about it!

Sizzling cauldron-lid pork with chilled mukbap

There was another dish I really liked while eating the meat! It was the cool mukbap (acorn jelly noodle soup) served alongside.

Cool mukbap (acorn jelly noodle soup) served alongside the meat

Eating a bite of cool mukbap after golden-brown meat straight from the hot cauldron was such a great pairing! The meat is warm and savory, while the mukbap is cool and refreshing, so it felt like it cleaned the palate between bites, haha. I was debating whether to order mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) but chose fried rice instead — having this on the side was really nice!

Finishing with cheese radish-salad fried rice

After enjoying the meat, you've got to finish with fried rice, right? Haha. We ordered the radish fried rice with cheese topping added! The radish gave it more depth, and cooking it in the tasty leftover oil from the meat made it look really delicious! On top of that, they piled on a ton of cheese and torched it, which made me even more excited, haha.

Honestly, you could tell just by looking that it'd be amazing, hahaha. And it really was — the cheese was so thick that adding it was totally worth the money, hehe. The fried rice itself was sweet, spicy, and crunchy thanks to the radish, which I loved. That said, the radish wasn't so crunchy that it got in the way — it was easy to eat!

Is Gogigaondang Dongtan Branch worth a visit?

So my husband and I visited Gogigaondang Dongtan Branch together and enjoyed everything from pork belly and gabrisal to radish fried rice! Most of all, having the staff grill the meat for us made dining so much easier, and their grilling skills were excellent — we left really satisfied. The pork belly had rich juices and a nice chewy texture, and the gabrisal was springy and savory, both delicious.

On top of that, it was great being able to grill various side dishes like tofu, kimchi, bean sprouts, and bracken fern alongside the meat! And the combination of sizzling cauldron-grilled meat with cool mukbap was such a perfect match!

This is a Bansong-dong BBQ restaurant that works well for couples like us, but also seems like a good pick for family outings, gatherings with friends, or company dinners, hahaha. My husband actually mentioned he's had a few work dinners here! If you're in Dongtan looking for delicious pork belly or gabrisal, or a BBQ place where the staff grills for you, Gogigaondang Dongtan Branch is worth a visit, haha.
