1st floor hall or 2nd floor private room: which suits a family?
This is the 1st floor dining area at Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village. Very neatly kept.

The atmosphere on the 2nd floor was so nice. The scenery through the curtains was quiet and peaceful, giving the space an even fresher feel.
There are also private rooms on the 2nd floor, so if you'd like a more private meal, it might be worth calling ahead to ask.
There's also a painting of a haenyeo (female diver) at the restaurant, which gives a sense of the place's history.
What comes on the haenyeo table of 12-plus dishes
We ordered pressure-pot abalone porridge and perilla seaweed soup!

The seafood table setting was so generous that it was a feast for the eyes the moment it arrived.

Boiled pork belly, seafood, cold raw fish soup, and more — over 12 dishes made up the haenyeo table.
They said the freshest seasonal ingredients that day determine the composition, so the seafood offered varies slightly with each visit.

With so many different dishes, it was fun trying a little of everything.

The abalone was so plump, the texture while chewing was really great!
The abalone raw fish soup also had a strong natural ocean flavor from the abalone.

Grilled flounder and boiled pork our 6-year-old ate happily
The grilled flounder was so mildly seasoned that even a very young child could eat it easily.

The boiled pork belly was also delicious, and my child liked it, so I rinsed off the spicy sauce in the seaweed soup and gave just the plain pork — she ate it up. If you leave a receipt review on Naver, you can get 5 pieces of whelk as a free service, so be sure to try that!
Pressure-pot abalone porridge at Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village
The abalone porridge is served in the pressure pot itself. It's cooked to order the moment you order it, so it's full of care and effort.
Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village doesn't pre-cook the porridge in advance and never uses frozen abalone — they use only fresh, premium-grade abalone. It seems to be rooted in an actual haenyeo recipe and cooking method, bringing out the natural umami of the abalone, so it was nutty and thick — really delicious.

Perilla abalone seaweed soup: how it tastes
You have to try this seaweed soup too. It's loaded with abalone, and with the added perilla flavor, it's an easy taste for both kids and adults to enjoy.
My child ate so well that I mixed rice into it for her.
Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village was such a great fit for my 6-year-old! Abalone porridge, perilla abalone seaweed soup, boiled pork belly, grilled flounder — any family with kids will find these easy to feed them.

Side dish refills and bringing a small dog
Side dishes are refillable, and the green onion kimchi is especially tasty, so don't miss it. Also, small dogs are allowed inside, in case that's useful to know.
