My husband and I are picky when it comes to burgers, and on our Gangneung trip we found a genuinely delicious handmade burger place — Moana Burger.

That day we ordered the Moana Burger set, the Hawaiian Burger set, and the red bean sauce.

The red bean sauce was truly the highlight. If you want to try it, order it alongside your meal like I did. If you want more fries, ordering two single burgers plus a red bean chili sauce fries could work well too. Drinks are ordered and grabbed from the fridge yourself.

While waiting for our order, I found myself looking around the interior. Every little prop matched the shop's vibe perfectly. The music playing softly in the background was great too.

Ta-da, here comes the delicious part. Isn't the plating, tray and all, just too cute?

They give you disposable gloves to eat the burger with. The sauces are cutely arranged near the kitchen, so you can grab whichever you want.

It seems like they give you a flower hairpin when you order Moana Burger — I got one. It felt like a little gift, the way kids get a balloon on vacation, so I wore it on my clothes all day. 🚗 It made me so happy 🚗

How did the Moana Burger and Hawaiian Burger taste?

Readers, seriously, look at this. I'm kind of mad right now because it's THAT good. So many handmade burger places these days are overpriced, with every ingredient priced separately like Subway, and everything tastes disconnected — but this place is the real deal. One bite and the juice just pours out of the patty. All hail the meat patty.

The soft, buttery bun, the nutty and savory special sauce, and the moistness that ties it all together — my husband and I both were genuinely impressed, like this is what a proper burger place looks like. The Hawaiian burger didn't let the pineapple overpower things, and it wasn't mushy either — it clung to the burger just right, all upside and no downside. We were so, so, so satisfied.

And then these fries!!!!!! I really love the thick-cut kind. But I don't like it when the inside gets mushy like mashed potato. These fries, though, were properly crispy, with just the right amount of oil coating the inside, and the salt level was spot on — not too salty, not too bland. So good I barely needed ketchup!

Why you should add the red bean sauce

One last bit of gushing, I promise. Definitely try adding this red bean sauce. They recently changed the seasoning and warned us it got a bit spicier, so adjust as you like. It's pretty spicy. But that savoriness!!! It's the kind of delicious spicy that keeps pulling you back. It's not an ordinary flavor, but whatever fries you pair it with, combined with this red bean sauce, it becomes something amazing.

📌 The red bean sauce is also delicious spread on the burger itself. It's an all-purpose sauce.
