Gyeongpodae mulhoe restaurant with Gangneung beer pairing: Samsami-ne
In short
Samsami-ne Gyeongpodae Main Branch is a mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) and red sea bream yubiki restaurant at the end of the sashimi restaurant street on Gyeongpodae Beach in Gangneung. The 80,000 won set for two at Samsami-ne brings mulhoe and red sea bream yubiki together with sushi rice, washed aged kimchi, steamed egg and shrimp, eaten here with a Gangneung beer. The broth was good enough that even someone who had never liked mulhoe drank the bowl dry, and it was worth a second trip to Gangneung in one summer.

A Gangneung sashimi restaurant recommendation: Samsami-ne, great value with red sea bream yubiki. The set for two at ₩80,000 comes with mulhoe included, plus a sushi-style spread!!!

I go to Gangneung every summer, but this summer I loved it so much I ended up visiting twice. A place I'd want to revisit again next time! Gangneung always makes me think of good mulhoe, and I heard there was a delicious sashimi restaurant that's been passed down through generations, so I went to check it out.

Where is Samsami-ne Gyeongpodae Main Branch, and where do you park?
The Gangneung sashimi restaurant I'd recommend right away is Samsami-ne. It's located right in front of Gyeongpodae Beach, and there's good parking along the coast. Even on a rainy day, it was famous enough that tons of people were visiting. It's popular even though it's at the very end of the sashimi restaurant street haha.
Gangneung's mulhoe restaurant, 'Samsami-ne.' There's a cluster of sashimi restaurants here and most people eat sashimi in this area, so if you're looking for the one that does it best, I'd recommend this one~~^^

Out front there were lots of fresh live fish in tanks.

What comes in the 80,000 won mulhoe and yubiki set for two?
Looking at the menu, we ordered the great-value set for two at ₩80,000, which comes with mulhoe and thickly-sliced yubiki. They told us the difference from regular sashimi is that it's cut thick and wide instead of thin. The mulhoe lunch menu is also solid, and the whole set is worth recommending as a Gangneung sashimi spot.

When I walked in, they quickly cleared our table and it was already full. This is a Gangneung restaurant that a lot of people clearly keep coming back to.

The origin labeling was properly posted, too. The red sea bream we ate was domestic. We only ordered the red sea bream, and it was so good I wanted to order it again. They really prep it well.

How does the mulhoe at Samsami-ne taste?
I'm normally not great with mulhoe... but why is this one so good?? Now when I come to Gangneung I'm just going to eat mulhoe. Just sipping the cold, sweet-and-tangy broth on its own was delicious, and with the crunchy vegetables and chewy sashimi added in, it was truly a special dish.

The sashimi was piled generously on top as a garnish too. It was so good I finished even the broth, and I regretted not getting one more bowl the next day as a hangover cure.

Pairing Gangneung beer with the sashimi
And I fell for the Gangneung beer. The aroma was so good and it paired really well with the sashimi. Gangneung beer had a taste and aroma as good as wine!

Drinking it alongside the sashimi made the flavor even better, and I decided I had to buy some to take home. Below I'll introduce the side dishes that come as part of the basic set~

Side dishes served with the Samsami-ne set
A spicy seasoned salad.

Warm steamed egg~ There was also seaweed soup, but where did that photo go...?? I drank it before I took a picture, haha.

My boyfriend peeled the shrimp for me too. Aside from that, sushi rice and washed aged kimchi come as part of the basic set~~

Thick red sea bream yubiki with sushi rice
While we were eating the mulhoe and side dishes, the red sea bream yubiki came out. It arrived beautifully arranged on a thick, full platter~

It was prepped so well there wasn't a single scale left, and the thickly sliced sashimi had great texture and depth of flavor. This time I barely dipped it in the chojang (vinegar-chili sauce) at all. They're really good at sashimi here!!

The sushi rice comes rolled into small round bites, which is exactly my style. When I eat sushi I usually want to skip the rice, but here it comes seasoned tangy with vinegar in bite-sized portions.

Piling aged kimchi on the rice and topping it with red sea bream is so good... the owner really recommended eating it this exact way haha.

The sashimi has a rich flavor, so it balances really well if you add chili and garlic from the seasoned side salad~~!!

We ordered more beer as we went and cleared the table completely. My Gangneung sashimi restaurant recommendation for mulhoe is Samsami-ne Main Branch, haha.
