Why eat sashimi right across from Bongpo Beach?

My husband and I, a couple who love traveling and love raw fish, headed off to Goseong this time 🚘🚗 We prefer raw fish and seafood over meat, so we eat sashimi pretty often even at home. Once you're in Goseong, you've gotta have a proper sashimi feast, right? >,<💕 This turned out to be the best restaurant we found on the trip ㅠㅠㅠ❤️❤️

Even the basic side dish spread came out incredibly generous, the assorted sashimi lineup was great, and the price was so reasonable that my husband and I both had hearts popping out of our eyes at each other 😍

Bongpo Hoega sits right across from Bongpo Beach. Apparently the owner used to run this place for almost 10 years inside the Bongpo Port live fish market center, but moved locations when the center was redeveloped! The owner personally bids on fish every morning at the fish market auction. Since they see the fish with their own eyes and only handle high quality seafood, it's a place you can trust when you visit 💕

The restaurant is also quite spacious! And clean 💖 So it seems like a great spot for a group visit if you're on a family trip haha. The owner was really friendly too, which instantly put me in a good mood >,< There's a baby chair too, so families with kids can visit comfortably. 😙

I ate in the restaurant, but takeout is also available ❣️ And wow, is the takeout price for real??? Isn't that seriously cheap!!???? We'd already packed everything for a barbecue that night so we planned to have sashimi for lunch, but if we hadn't had evening plans, I would've wanted to take some more sashimi home too, hehe.

I started with the abalone, which had such an appealingly crunchy texture! Fishy taste? What's that? Nothing but freshness here 🤤

Shrimp, scallop, sea squirt, no fishy taste anywhere ❣️ Especially the sea squirt ㅠㅠㅠ love it so much ㅠㅠㅠ🧡🧡 I once went to another sashimi restaurant where sea squirt came out as part of the basic spread. But it was so, so fishy I couldn't eat it ㅠㅠ I feel like restaurants sometimes put less care into the basic spread, but the owner at Bongpo Hoega really seems genuinely passionate about seafood!!! I'm a real raw-fish lover, and this place made me so happy 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Inside the platter: pufferfish, flatfish and rockfish

Next came the assorted sashimi platter 😆 It was nice that the owner came over and explained each cut 💓 The lineup was pufferfish, mareumi, flounder, and rockfish 💙 What fish is mareumi? I looked it up and found out it's a dialect word for fish in the amberjack family haha. Amberjack!!! Love it!!!!! 😆

My very first time eating pufferfish sashimi!!! Wow this is seriously chewy 🤤🤤 It had this texture that clings to your tongue, really delicious 👍🏻

Mareumi, the dialect name for amberjack-family fish 😊 I'm not usually a big amberjack person, but this was really delicious!!! Dipped in makjang (spicy fermented sauce), it hits a whole other level of deliciousness 😋

People who love sashimi basically love flounder, right 🤍 Well, that's just me, maybe? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ It was so fresh it tasted even better!!!

The rockfish was seriously chewy 🫶🏻 Wrapped in lettuce it's even better!!! Between flounder and rockfish, I actually like rockfish more, hehe.

Finishing with Bongpo Hoega's spicy fish stew

Just as we were finishing most of the sashimi, the owner asked if we'd like spicy fish stew prepared. Yes!! Yes, please!!!! This is exactly the moment for a spicy, hot broth >.<💗 It was packed with red chili flakes, so it came out really spicy and refreshing!!! It's even better with the leftover raw fish added in 😋

Cheers with soju 〰️ How could you not drink soju with this broth.. This alcohol lover is crying tears of joy 😭 Yes.. it's daytime. Daytime drinking is the best ^.^;; Isn't every trip supposed to start with daytime drinks!!!!!! With such great drinking snacks, we lightly knocked back 2 bottles of soju and 1 bottle of beer ^.^

The restrooms are indoors and separated by gender.

Calling it "lightly knocked back 2 bottles of soju and 1 beer" is a stretch — this ended in full-on drunk mode 🥴 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ I got so happy I ran straight down to the Goseong sea. My husband, living with someone like me, really has it rough ^_^;;; Thanks to the generous spread at Bongpo Hoega, we got pleasantly tipsy and thoroughly enjoyed the sea before heading off 🌀🌀 hehehehehehehe

We were moved starting from the basic side dish spread 🥹 Abalone, sea squirt, shrimp, and scallop with absolutely no fishy taste, we were happy from the very start 😍 As raw fish lovers, we were completely won over, so I genuinely recommend this place 🌟 We're definitely planning to come back.
