Gangneung café with a beach gym walk and strawberry latte: Baegya

When you're at the East Sea, you've got to hit up at least one ocean-view café, right? So in between a packed schedule we stopped by Baegya Coffee in Gangneung. It's right in front of Sageunjin Beach, so after parking we walked along the beach gym (haha) all the way to the viewpoint — a great little breather.

Baegya Coffee basics: hours, address and where to park

The best part of a big café — parking is genuinely easy! Should be fine even coming as a group. There are marked spots right in front of the entrance, and if those are full, there's a dedicated lot right behind the building. Someone's stationed there too, so you just park where they direct.

The whole 4-floor building, rooftop included, is the café, so seating is pretty generous.

What's on the first-floor bakery shelves and how much bread costs

There are seats on the 1st floor too, but the parked cars kind of block the ocean view, so most people just order there and head up to the 2nd floor.

True to its reputation as a big Gangneung bakery café, the bread selection was way more than I expected.

From the trendy choco baguette to fig ciabatta, since figs are in season right now.

And the best part — the cake-type desserts were way cheaper than I expected!!

I hadn't planned on eating any bread, but the designs were so pretty and the prices reasonable for a big bakery café, so somehow (haha) I ended up buying one.

If you skipped breakfast, sandwiches or savory breads like these could work as brunch too. The quality looked solid too — every table had a loaf sliced up and being shared.

A photo for reference on types and prices. They said bread stock runs out a lot in the afternoon, so if you want to try some, better to come around lunchtime rather than too late in the day.

And then the coffee menu. Since we're in Gangneung, there are a few corn-based drinks sprinkled in. The Oksigi (corn) ice cream is the signature menu item and had a lot of good reviews, so I ordered one to try.

The 1st floor interior is pretty open too. And the seats are spaced out well, so it wasn't noisy, which was nice.

There are baby chairs on every floor! And plenty of bread that's easy to feed kids, so it's a good spot for families too.

And then the elevator. On a multi-floor café, carrying drinks up and down stairs is nerve-wracking, so it's nice you can just take the elevator instead.

They even set up trays on both sides to rest your drinks on while ordering (haha), and honestly having that really does help.

Second and third floors: the WHITE&NIGHT café and its terraces

The higher you go, the more the floor-to-ceiling windows open up a direct view of the sea. And it's not just the seats right by the window — the inner seats are staggered on a step-like layout too, so the ocean view isn't as blocked. Nice.

The 3rd floor felt about the same, aside from slightly different design. Water and tissues are self-serve on every floor.

And best of all — the privilege of this beautiful-weather season! The terrace view is so pretty. Cool breeze, wide-open sea view — perfect for unwinding. Though apparently for safety reasons (fear of kids falling, I guess), the 2nd/3rd floor terraces and the 4th floor rooftop are no-kids zones.

Pretty, right? We sat by the window, and since it was backlit, my mom had me turn the drinks around for the photo.

Sangha Farm dairy is genuinely good quality, but I thought ₩6,500 was a bit pricey — until they piled it up as high as the drink next to it.

Genuinely a premium sweet-corn ice cream flavor. There's cereal and corn kernels mixed in, so it has a nice chewy texture too. Totally my type.

And then the cherry cream cake we ordered kind of on a whim. It's like a Baskin Robbins Cherry Jubilee but with a milkier cream base — not too sweet, and you get little bursts of cherry chunks throughout. Everyone at the table took a bite.

A shot with the ocean view. It was so backlit that honestly, if you want to get both the sea and the drinks in one photo, heading out to the terrace or rooftop would get you a much better shot.

Is the fourth-floor rooftop photo zone worth the climb?

We didn't sit here because the sun was too strong, but the rooftop view was genuinely, genuinely great. With colorful tables and the sky meeting the sea in the background, photos here should turn out well too.

There's even a little raised viewpoint-like structure up there, so you can enjoy the vibe, or come back later in the day when it cools off a bit and catch the sunset colors with the sea breeze.

Final take on Baegya Coffee at Sageunjin Beach

Baegya Coffee is a great ocean-view café to visit when you want to take a beach walk and grab a coffee, or just enjoy some downtime looking at the Gangneung sea. Recommended if you need a spot to catch your breath during a family trip.
