Gangneung night-sea café on Haean-ro with corn ice cream: Baegya

I was driving along Sageunjin Beach in Gangneung when I came across this large bakery café, Baegya Coffee, an ocean-view spot right on the road. Visiting in the evening meant I missed the wide-open emerald sea, but the space itself was great and the evening atmosphere had its own charm!

Where is Baegya Coffee, and is there parking?

Baegya Coffee is located at 607 Haean-ro, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do. It's right across from Sageunjin Beach, and the building rises impressively from the 1st to 3rd floor, so it was easy to spot even while driving by.

Parking is convenient, with spacious dedicated lots at both the front and back of the store.

Floors 1 through 3 are café spaces, and a nice bonus is that each floor has its own terrace. The 4th floor is a rooftop space.

Inside Baegya Coffee floor by floor: where to sit

The 1st floor has the counter, the bakery display case, and tidy seating. A wide variety of breads are sold, but since we visited late, most were sold out.

This is the 1st-floor table seating. Head further inside and you'll find the elevator.

The 2nd floor of Baegya Coffee. High ceilings and a well-kept, comfortable feel mean you'll get an unobstructed panoramic sea view no matter where you sit.

Unlike the 2nd floor, the 3rd floor has bright full-length windows that make the space feel even more open, so we decided to sit there.

The 4th floor is the rooftop space. Note that the terrace areas on each floor and the 4th-floor rooftop are no-kids zones.

There's a variety of seating options, so on a nice day like this, it'd be great to visit during the daytime and sit out on the terrace.

Baegya Coffee's menu: what sells out by evening

Baegya Coffee sells a wide variety of baked goods plus its signature corn ice cream. Since we came late, most of the breads were sold out, so I browsed the few remaining baked cookies. A sad bread lover, haha.

You can also choose between acidic and nutty coffee beans, with decaf available too, so there's plenty of choice to match your taste.

How do the corn ice cream and Baegya milk cloud roll taste?

What we ordered at Baegya Coffee was the signature corn ice cream, the Baegya milk cloud roll, and an iced Americano. After picking up our order, we got in the elevator and found this thoughtful little temporary shelf for setting down the tray — such a nice touch.

An iced Americano is a must with sweet desserts, and this one impressed with the nutty, clean body of dark-roasted beans. The acidity wasn't overpowering and finished cleanly, washing away the sweetness of the corn ice cream and milk cloud roll for the perfect pairing.

This is the milk cloud roll — cloud-light, fluffy sponge generously filled with milk, fresh cream, and mascarpone cheese, soft on the first bite and finishing with a rich milky nuttiness. No greasiness at all, just an impressively soft, nutty flavor.

The one I was most curious about — the signature corn ice cream! A soft, nutty ice cream base is fully infused with the sweet, savory flavor unique to corn. The subtle sweetness of chodang corn spreads through it, and with its smooth texture and crunchy topping, it's a best dessert that anyone, young or old, can enjoy.

Is Baegya Coffee worth visiting at night?

Baegya Coffee is an ocean-view café in Gangneung where you can enjoy delicious desserts while taking in the open view of Sageunjin Beach through floor-to-ceiling windows. Between the friendly service, the spacious and clean floors, and the distinctive corn ice cream plus terraces on every level, I think it's a really appealing café. If you're driving along Haean-ro in Gangneung and looking for an atmospheric ocean-view café, give this place a visit!
