Where is Coffee Dripper? A 10-minute walk from Gangmun Beach, next to Chodang Tofu Village

Coffee Dripper is a café on Nanseolheon-ro in Chodang-dong, Gangneung, just a 10-minute walk from Gangmun Beach, so it's doable even without a car. Hours run 10:00 to 18:00, closed every Tuesday. The restroom is indoors and gender-separated, and there's Wi-Fi and outlets.

If you go to Gangneung and don't have coffee, it just feels wrong, so a café has to make the itinerary 🤗

Here's the exterior of Coffee Dripper 👀 The ceiling looks tall, but only the first floor and outdoor seating are open! Right across the street is Toetmaru Coffee, arguably Gangneung's biggest tourist draw, and the line there was massive. I wasn't up for waiting with my mom, so we just walked right past and came to Coffee Dripper instead 😇

There's a wide private parking lot, so parking is easy 🚗 With plenty of space, there was nothing to worry about! A great Chodang-dong café to stop by after a meal near Chodang Tofu Village 🫶

Here's Coffee Dripper's menu! Apparently some people bring in food from Toetmaru across the street 💦 Outside food isn't allowed, so let's be considerate 🫠 The coffee prices are a bit on the higher side, but hey, it's a tourist spot 🤷🏻‍♀️ There's also soft-serve ice cream and iced tea, so it's good for families with kids too! With plenty of signature drinks, I'd recommend this as a place worth visiting in Gangneung 😘

Can't skip the desserts either! The room-temperature ones are displayed in the showcase. Three kinds each of financiers and croffins 🧁

At the return counter there's cold water and cups, and 🛜Wi-Fi info with the password/napkins. Sometimes the Wi-Fi ID isn't the store name and it's hard to find, so I appreciate places that spell it out like this 🤗

The restroom is inside the store! It's split by gender on either side of a shared handwashing area 🚻 There's a sink inside too 🫧

The mug T-shirts are simple and cute, right?! They also sell drip bags and the cups/dishes used in-store as merchandise ✨️

Inside, Coffee Dripper has a woody-toned interior with greenery scattered around, and you can see the whole brewing area at a glance. The high ceilings give it a nice open feel.

On a nice day like this, sitting outside and soaking up the natural light is the move. When the sun's too strong, you can open a parasol, and then it's just a breeze blowing through — even better 🌬

The high ceilings make it feel open, and near the folding doors you can see straight outside, so no matter where you sit, the sunlight comes in and it feels spacious and relaxed 🤗🫶

It's still a bit warm so the AC was on and the windows were closed, but I imagine they'll open the doors in the fall, and I'd love to come back then 🍁 There are outlets scattered around too ⚡️, great for charging your phone while traveling — someone was working on a laptop as well 👀

What we ordered at Coffee Dripper and what it cost

We came right around the after-lunch coffee craving and the place was packed, but the drinks came out fast 😲👍 And true to the shop's name, they sell drip coffee — nearly everyone had a cup of drip with their order ☕️ That reassured me this must be Gangneung's go-to spot for drip coffee ✨️

Our order arrived 🤗❣️ Since we were out for a fun day, I went a little overboard ordering.

Dripper house blend, 7,000 won: smooth and full-bodied with almost no acidity

I ordered the dripper house blend for my mom! The description said it's heavy yet smooth going down — the signature coffee of Coffee Dripper — and wow, it really lived up to that description 🥰 I barely tasted any acidity, which I loved! And it was so smooth at the same time — genuinely the best 😲🫶 Exactly Bonnie's kind of flavor!! My mom said it was a bit strong, but she still praised the taste and aroma 🤭ㅋㅋ And a pine needle tea came as a palate cleanser 🌲

Cone choco latte, 8,000 won: the hot-only signature drink

The cone choco latte that Bonnie ordered 😉 I figured it'd be less sweet than the signature cream latte, so I went with this one — and the visuals, wow ✨️ It comes fitted in a dedicated cone holder, so pretty, right?! It was filled right to the brim, and the friendly barista kindly carried it over to our table so it wouldn't spill 😘

The cone choco latte only comes hot, so giving up on iced was worth it in the end 😋 There's chocolate coated inside the cone, so when it touches the warm latte, that spot melts slightly and gives off a subtle sweetness, different from a mocha latte — really excellent ☕️🫶 Once you finish the latte, the chocolate part shows up — Bonnie ate a bit slowly so it had hardened! Normally that chocolate melts too, so you can drink it right down — so good 😆 The very bottom is white chocolate!

Sundubu pudding, 7,000 won: a limited-run tofu dessert with raspberry and yuja

A limited-edition tofu pudding (sundubu pudding) 🍮 Luckily it was still available when Bonnie visited around lunchtime, so I ordered it right away! I love pudding so I was curious 🤔 The visuals were gorgeous, but tofu plus raspberry and yuja (citron)...🫠?! I was a little puzzled about the combo, but —

The tofu pudding alone was a bit plain, but with the raspberry and yuja it got a nice tangy boost! The pudding itself is a touch sweet, and too much yuja would make it doubly sweet, but the raspberry balances that out 🍓 Sweet-tart-sweet in the right proportions! The texture was more crumbly than a typical pudding — kind of like pressing the water out of tofu ㅋㅋㅋ

Two financiers 😋 salty chocolate and salted vanilla! I was going to just get the can't-go-wrong salty chocolate, but salted vanilla felt like the essential, fundamental option, so I added it too 🤭ㅋㅋ But as expected, since Bonnie's a chocolate person, the salty chocolate was a little tastier 🍫

Turns out Coffee Dripper also does its own roasting! I spotted it on the way to the restroom and snapped a photo 📸 Places that roast in-house usually taste better!

Besides the outdoor seating I mentioned earlier, there's also outdoor seating near the front entrance, and I got totally fooled by something sitting at one of the tables 👀💦 I thought someone had left their bag behind, but it turned out to be a sculpture (?) ㅋㅌㅋㅋ

Is Coffee Dripper worth a stop in Gangneung? Who it suits best

A genius-visuals, genius-taste Gangneung café worth eating at 😘 With regionally inspired desserts and its own signature menu items setting it apart from other places, I think it's genuinely one of the cafés worth visiting among Gangneung's many options 🫶 The atmosphere was comfortable, and the staff were all kind, so it was a pleasant visit — I'd like to come back again 👀✨️

You've got to have a coffee when you're in Gangneung! But if you're tired of black sesame and corn lattes by now, why not treat yourself to the sweet signature cream latte or the visually stunning cone choco latte 😉 There's also soft serve in coffee or milk flavor, so there's something for everyone. And true to its name, the drip coffee tastes fantastic too ☕️

A Gangneung café I'd recommend stopping by after a warm meal at Chodang Tofu Village 🙋‍♀️ With a spacious private parking lot, there's no need to worry about parking near Gangmun Beach! Enjoy a fragrant cup of coffee at Coffee Dripper 🤗
