Gangneung galbi restaurant for a mom trip: Chodang Uga woo-dae galbi

A few days ago my mom and I went on a one-night, two-day trip to Gangneung — and a trip means a food itinerary is absolutely required!! Every time I visit Gangneung I stop by Gangneung Hanwoo Chodang Uga, a Gangneung restaurant / Gangmun Beach restaurant I always come back to.
Chodang Uga is near St. John's Hotel and close to Gangmun Beach, so it's an easy place to get to, and since it's dog-friendly, it's a spot with a lot of memories of going with my dog Kong. Visiting without Kong for the first time felt a little strange and made me miss him more, but I really got my dose of nostalgia.

Gangneung Hanwoo Chodang Uga is at 298-4 Haean-ro, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do, and it's open daily from 11:00 to 21:30. Break time is 15:00–17:00, last order is 20:50, and it's closed on September 22 and 29.

Walking into Chodang Uga, the left side is pet-friendly seating and the right is general seating. Visiting Gangneung Hanwoo Chodang Uga again after a while, that unmistakable delicious-restaurant smell hits you right from the entrance.
If people are going to enjoy their meal at a good restaurant, our dog friends need something tasty too, right?! They have homemade treats on hand. There's also a stroller available so pups can rest comfortably.
Woo-dae galbi for two and the side dish spread
If you ask me where the best Gangmun Beach restaurant is, one of the first Gangneung restaurants that comes to mind is Gangneung Hanwoo Chodang Uga, where you can try everything from hanwoo (Korean beef) ribs to woo-dae galbi, seasoned galbi, and rice dishes. The woo-dae galbi (premium prime rib) here isn't tough at all — it's genuinely delicious.
We ordered woo-dae galbi for two, and while we waited they brought out the side dishes — consistently tidy every time. Same side dishes on every visit, but still delicious!! Good good.
Broccoli / sweet pumpkin salad / japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) / salad.
It was my mom's first time at this restaurant, and she said it was clean and nice, so I could relax a bit — she was satisfied.
White sundubu (soft tofu stew) plus pickled onions and pickled radish that go perfectly with the meat — a truly complete spread!!
Which cut is Chodang Uga's woo-dae galbi?
Look at the color of the woo-dae galbi. Chodang Uga's woo-dae galbi apparently only uses the 6th–8th rib flower rib meat out of the 16 ribs of American black cattle. It's got a totally royal flavor. They also bring out mushrooms and onions.
The self-serve wrap vegetable bar
At Chodang Uga's self-serve corner, there are wrap vegetables as well as the side dishes they gave us at the start, so if you run low, just go get more yourself.
The wrap vegetables are fresh too. The meat is fresh, and even the vegetables!!
Grilling the beef ribs over charcoal yourself
Once they bring out the charcoal grill, you just put the woo-dae galbi on top and grill it yourself — last time they grilled it for us, but this time they said we had to grill it ourselves. Still, the meat was pre-cut next to the grill so it was easy, and I got to grill it like a pro.
The texture is insane, right?! Looking at this now, I want to eat it again. Woahhh.
Well-grilled woo-dae galbi is delicious even without a wrap, but wrapped up it's also amazing, so I tried it a few different ways. I've come here often and it's still just as good, and I really thought — I'm so glad I came with my mom. I wanted the cold noodles too, but I was too full to have any.
My mom said she was full and it was delicious, so once again the Gangneung restaurant / Gangmun Beach restaurant Chodang Uga passed the taste test with flying colors.
