Busan sushi lunch with a multilingual kiosk near PNU: Moshi Moshi

In short

Moshi Moshi PNU Branch is a Japanese restaurant in Jangjeon-dong, Geumjeong-gu, Busan, a 2-minute walk from the main gate of Pusan National University, and it is the original branch that opened in 2012. The writer ordered the omakase 12p with tempura and udon for 35,000 won and the salmon-tuna sushi 10p for 26,000 won, working through three starters to the tempura, and Moshi Moshi also covers 1 hour of parking in the lot beside the shop and takes orders on a multilingual kiosk. Finding sushi of this quality in a university neighborhood was the biggest draw.

Hi, this is Kuroming :) I finally visited Moshi Moshi, the longtime PNU institution! Haha, I'd been curious about this place forever and finally made it happen. Bringing you a genuine local favorite.

Where is Moshi Moshi PNU Branch, and what are the hours?

Moshi Moshi PNU Branch is a Japanese restaurant at 271-5 Geumgang-ro, 1st floor (Jangjeon-dong), Geumjeong-gu, Busan. It's open 11:00–21:30.

It's a 9-minute walk from PNU Station Exit 3, so the trip wasn't hard at all, and it's close to PNU's main gate too! Just a 2-minute walk from the main gate!! If you come by bus, get off at the PNU main gate stop, walk straight, then turn left — it's only a 1-minute walk, so the location is great! It's also close to NC Department Store, making it a good combo for eating and shopping.

Exterior and entrance of Moshi Moshi PNU Branch

I liked that photos of the sushi menu and prices were posted at the entrance so you could check them easily!

Business hours are 11:00 to 21:30, with last order at 21:00! On weekdays there's a break time (15:00–16:30), so try to avoid that window. *No break time on weekends, apparently.

They also don't use seafood from Japan, apparently. It's posted right before you enter, which made me trust the place even more haha.

A Japanese restaurant near PNU with 1 hour of parking covered

There's a parking lot right next to the restaurant, so parking is easy. Around PNU, where parking is usually a nightmare, having a lot right next door is a smart move by the owner. They said they cover 1 hour of parking!

Inside Moshi Moshi PNU Branch: seating and atmosphere

The interior of Moshi Moshi PNU Branch is all wood, giving it a mountain-lodge kind of feel... warm and cozy, I loved it haha. There were also plenty of tables, so no worries about waiting. It looks great for group gatherings or company dinners too.

They also have a high chair ready, so it works for family dining out :)

What's on the multilingual kiosk menu, and how much?

Kiosk ordering screen inside the restaurant

Orders are placed via kiosk. The PNU branch is the flagship, opened in February 2012, followed by the Gwangbok branch in December 2019 and the Dongnae branch in May 2023 — three locations total in Busan!

Kiosk screen listing individual sushi menu items

The menu was diverse — sets & courses, sushi, one-plate meals, individual sushi pieces, individual dishes & kids' sets, and sashimi. Each set menu noted how many people it suited, which made choosing easy. Tapping a menu item also brought up a description. The difference between the

'good' and 'even better' options is the same portion size but different toppings on the sushi!

Screen showing assorted sushi lineup and prices

The assorted sushi lineup was pretty solid, personally :) And beyond sushi, they also sell salmon marinated rice bowls and fish roe rice bowls, so I liked having variety. Please check the photos for menu prices!

They also support English, Japanese, and Chinese menus, so foreign visitors can order without any trouble.

If you participate in the Naver receipt review event, they give you 2 shrimp sushi pieces as a service. Join in and get that shrimp sushi ♥

Kirin draft beer and house plum ade drink menu

They sell Kirin draft beer (₩8,000) and house plum ade (₩4,000). Sushi with Kirin draft, what a combo...♥♥

Omakase 12p with tempura and udon, 35,000 won

When I sat down, I noticed the paper table mat was already laid out — felt like being treated well!! Haha. And the chopsticks were sanitary, single-use ones, which I appreciated :)

Before the main dish, they served salad, tofu salad, and miso soup — all three were delicious and got my appetite going.

We ordered the omakase 12p + tempura + udon (₩35,000) and the salmon-tuna sushi 10p (₩26,000)!

Omakase 12p with tempura and complimentary udon spread

Apparently udon comes free when you order the omakase sushi!! Sushi plus udon and tempura, what an unbeatable combo ㅠㅠㅠ True to its omakase name, the toppings alone screamed premium. The visuals were insane...

Omakase sushi 12 pieces topped with white fish and abalone

It came with white fish, abalone, tuna, shrimp, eel, and salmon — a lineup anyone would love!! Haha. And since the owner apparently learned authentic sushi-making directly in Japan, the fish slices were all noticeably thick, and the rice wasn't overloaded, which personally I liked! You could really feel the 20 years of experience in Japanese cuisine haha. Even as omakase sushi, the lineup was so good and the price so reasonable that I'm planning to order the omakase sushi again next time!

The eel sushi was genuinely insane — not a single tiny bone, and it melted the moment it hit my mouth. The salmon sushi was like a blanket draped over the rice, thick and long, so you could really feel the texture more. And needless to say, everything was fresh... Moshi Moshi still crosses my mind... a real PNU favorite, a real sushi favorite...

The complimentary udon and tempura at Moshi Moshi

The udon noodles were nice and chewy too, packed with fried tofu and shiitake mushrooms, which made it even better. Every single item felt made with care >3< I really think you should try the udon too.

The tempura — it's been so long since I've seen tempura this golden that I started wondering what all the tempura I'd eaten before even was, it was that pretty haha.

Sweet pumpkin and sweet potato tempura

Shrimp, sweet pumpkin, and sweet potato tempura — a lineup anyone would love, and it was so crispy and delicious! The portion was hearty enough to make me wonder if it was okay to get this much at this price.

Salmon-tuna sushi 10p, 26,000 won

Next up is the salmon-tuna sushi 10p my partner ordered! Haha, I'd recommend this to anyone who normally loves salmon and tuna. Ordering this menu also comes with tempura included.

Salmon-tuna sushi set of 10 pieces

The tuna and salmon color was so smooth...♥♥ There's a reason this place has been a long-running favorite... To think a sushi restaurant of this quality exists in a university neighborhood!!!!

If you're looking for a PNU favorite, a sushi favorite, a Jangjeon-dong favorite, or a PNU lunch favorite, I'd recommend Moshi Moshi PNU Branch ♥

Mint candies placed at the counter for a palate cleanser

There were even mint candies ready for a palate cleanser! Hahaha. I heard even professors love this place, and now I get exactly why. If you're looking for a PNU restaurant, I'd recommend this one!
