What we ordered: two gyukatsu set meals

☑️ Gyukatsu set (x2) ₩17,000 X2

Two ordered gyukatsu set trays

Grilling gyukatsu well-done on your own mini brazier

I ordered two of the restaurant's signature gyukatsu sets! 🥩

Gyukatsu set served on a single-serving tray

On a neatly arranged single-serving tray, medium-rare fried beef gyukatsu arrives!! It comes with furikake-sprinkled rice, warm fried tofu miso soup, cabbage salad, diced radish kimchi, and a generous helping of the special sauce.

Basic spread of furikake rice, tofu miso soup, and cabbage salad

Once staff light the mini brazier on your table, you grill each piece of gyukatsu to your preferred doneness, browning it up nicely. 🥩 Watching it sizzle on the brazier and smelling that savory aroma had me drooling, haha.

We started off grilling little by little, then piled a ton on toward the end, hahaha.

Once the gyukatsu is grilled just right, put a little wasabi on top and dip it into the savory special soy sauce or the sweet-and-spicy garlic mustard sauce — the crispy coating and the tender, soft beef inside melt together in your mouth. The soy sauce wasn't too salty, so I ended up just dunking it right in!

Staff service at Izawa: heat turned up and a new grill plate

The staff at Izawa Cheonan Sinbu-dong Branch really had the best sense of timing! When the flame got weaker partway through grilling, they immediately turned it up, and they even swapped the grill plate for a clean one midway through, so we could keep grilling cleanly and deliciously right to the end. Super satisfying, haha.

What comes with the set: cabbage salad, kkakdugi, tofu soup and furikake rice

The generous mound of cabbage salad served alongside cuts through the richness of the meat, and paired with crunchy diced radish kimchi, it felt like the richness dropped to zero!

The warm, savory fried tofu miso soup was so full of umami that I ended up drinking straight from the bowl. The rice was topped with salty furikake sprinkled on top, giving it a strong vibe of eating at a restaurant in Japan, haha.

Gyukatsu and wasabi over furikake rice

Putting well-grilled gyukatsu over rice with a bit of wasabi kimchi on top is seriously delicious. Well-done was the way to go for me 🤭

Final verdict on Izawa Cheonan Sinbu-dong Branch

✍️ Crispy coating, juicy beef inside, friendly service, and thoughtful table setup — Izawa in Cheonan Sinbu-dong nailed it all! A neat, delicious Japanese gyukatsu set spot worth recommending for a date~~
